You all need to get over your Lib vs Lab battles and have a look at the bigger picture.
Either party is interchangeable as is any candidate either party presents for the Prime Ministership.
Either party will throw the sop of better education, welfare reforms, health education, stop the boats to appease the unsuspecting public while behind the scenes the wholesale sell-off of Australia's resources to foreign interest continues apace.
Australia's leaders have surrendered their power to the moneylenders in the temple.

Is it not a discussion about Abbott's expenses?
He looks like has claimed more than anyone else.
It's a shallow comparison when they both appear the same.
An education and health for starters there are huge differences.
The current government can't be accused of only working around the 3 year election cycles with thir many long term initiatives that the previous avoided.
The man that wants to be PM conspires to send people to jail for no good reason.

"Is it not a discussion about Abbott's expenses?"
Yes of course. You're focussing so hard on the tree, you can't see the forest.

Well, this tree has lots to answer for. Labor has done very good job under extremely difficult conditions; hung parliament and constant personal attacks by the opposition and media. TA did nothing but talked Australia down; is it a wonder that people have not much confidence when all they read in the media is how bad we have it?
It looks like TA has fraudulently claimed thousands of dollars expenses; it looks like there might be more than the $9000

Is the rest of the forest unethical as well?
Good reason not to vote for his side then.
The man has claimed about a million in expenses in one year, on top of his $300,000 + salary.
The man claim expenses while on charity rides and book launch tours.
It might be acceptable to aver claim and repay monies if you apply the same principle to others. This person doesn't.
He has hounded Slipper for about one tenth the amount. He conspired to jail Pauline Hanson, Peter Slipper and possibly others.
We would be better off without his leadership and lies.
What do you suggest? We can the government altogether because you say they are as bad as each other.
Where would that leave us?

Obviously yes. If both parties can sling mud at each other like that, means there's plenty of mud on both sides.
Good reason not to vote for his side then.
Good reason not to vote for the other side too.

Maybe so. And the Labor party had fully endorsed a Prime Minister who in her time as a Lawyer has conspired to set up and defraud Union funds.
We would be better off without his leadership and lies.

Start looking around for independent parties.

"I think the way the media and many Aussies have treated Julia Gillard has been absolute disgrace."
She entered the Canberra Bear by choice and patriarchal assistance which then extended to opportunistic elevation to the prime ministership. The "many Aussies" (electorate) have judged her performance over time, and have passed judgement via opinion polls resulting in the patriarchs opportunistically deposing her. That is not a disgrace, it is political reality, and ALP political survival.
Of course the gender card is in play, look at the ratio of support Gillard had from the male/female electorate, and also a few females (here as well) "blindly" identfy with gender , overlooking her overall performance.
Abbott was clearlly judged as being preferred PM before Gillard was deposed, and that is really scary, but it was indicitive of what " many Aussies" thought.
The associated treatment during Gillard's term was not a "disgrace", it was bear pit politics, and in my opinion Gillard did not have the intestinal fortitude to be in the "bear pit" where there is never mention of either mother, or father bear.

While we still have resources to sell. Once they're all in foreign hands, god help us all.
