I think it is interesting that Rudd has not been vilified by the media for posting his cut himself shaving pic on twitter

Gee, Catmad has an emoticon named after her  Smiley LOL

The media have touched on it. The story I saw made out like he just started the selfies in an attempt to appeal to the young, failing to acknowledge that he has been pollyking of selfies for ever.

PRIME Minister Julia Gillard is among federal MPs who have been forced to repay almost $100,000 to taxpayers after wrongly claiming family travel perks.

Sustainability and Population Minister Tony Burke made 15 separate repayments involving family travel, totalling almost $7000.

Even the PM made 10 repayments totalling $438 for taxi fares she said were "inadvertently" claimed by a family member.

Deputy Speaker Peter Slipper, who has repaid more than $17,000 over the past decade, has paid back $1550 in family travel entitlements.

Ballarat MP and Labor frontbencher Catherine King was asked to repay $1881 for travel by her husband and subsequently lodged a submission calling for changes to reflect the needs of breastfeeding MPs.

FN: "The now utterly discredited Fair Work Australia report contained allegations of over $800,000 but resulted in only $26,000 worth of charges by Victorian Police, most relating to expenses that would appear to be entirely within the scope of his Health Services Union responsibilities"

"He is accused of using the HSU credit cards to pay for sexual services at Tiffanyโ€™s Girls, which claims to be Sydneyโ€™s best brothel, Boardroom Escorts, A Touch of Class, Keywed Pty Ltd (a company allegedly linked to the escort agency Sydney Outcalls Network) and Aboutoun Catering (listed as an escort service).
The amount paid at the Sydney brothels and escort agencies totalled more than $5600 between March 2003 and August 2007.
Mr Thomson is also charged with using union credit cards to spend more than $40,000 on in-house R-rated pornographic movies at hotels, food and drinks, cigarettes, flights, car hire, petrol, taxis, valet parking, cash withdrawals and hotel rooms."

"expenses that would appear to be entirely within the scope of his Health Services Union responsibilities" ??????

Now those are a "man's" union benefits!

April 26, 2013
CRAIG Thomson must still fight a Fair Work Australia case against him for alleged misuse of union funds, after arguing he could not face that case and similar criminal charges at the same time.
"Federal Court judge Christopher Jessup today ordered the civil case brought against Mr Thomson by Fair Work Australia, now known as the Fair Work Commission, proceed...."

FN, why would a Federal Court judge decide that the alleged (by yourself)  "utterly discredited Fair Work Australia" would, prima facie, have a case to proceed against Thompson?

Have you also wondered why  criminal charges ( fraud and theft) have also  been laid against Thompson?

Big difference between $800,000 and $26,000. That's the point I was making. He has been charged with claiming $26,000 over 7 years, mainly on reasonable snacks and drinks with petrol.

The point is not that pollies have repaid overcharged expenses. The story is about the different treatment of Slipper compared to Abbott and the fact that Abbott denied that he had charged the expenses on his parliamentary account and the fact that he denied it happened.  He did not repay the full amount until he was instructed to by the then minister responsible.  Did Abbott pay the debt or did another party?

The questions raised are who requested the police intervene to stop Slipper repaying the amount when he attempted to and why?

Further questions relate to his claiming of expenses on the charity bike rides and other charity events or functions.

Have a look at the register some time. Abbott's expenses are extremely high compared to most parliamentary members.
