Press Council finds Fairfax fabricated AWU Gillard stories
A scathing assessment of the ethics of Fairfax Media by the Press Council confirms Fairfax’s decision to follow the tawdry lead of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp in falsifying ‘news’ for political ends, writes Alan Austin

and now ...
THE ATTACK IS ON AGAIN, writes GetUp!
Yesterday, members of the Government – including Cory Bernardi, Bronwyn Bishop and Ian Macdonald – agitated to defund Australia's favourite public broadcaster.
Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi called our ABC a "taxpayer-funded behemoth", and suggested that
"... we could perhaps cut the ABC budget and allow the commercial media operators to compete."
Let's sign and share this petition, and create a huge, instant response to stand up for our ABC: http://www.getup.org.au/ourABC
Here's why we need to oppose this now: they've pulled this move before. This is the Coalition throwing out a test balloon, so they can see how the public responds to their long-held desire to slash the ABC.
Pulled straight from the Christmas wishlist of Rupert Murdoch and right-wing think-tank the IPA, defunding or commercialising the ABC would ruin a rare, educational and uniquely Australian public resource.
We like our ABC free of ads, free for all, free to remain fair and balanced.
Will you make sure Tony Abbott knows to keep it that way?
http://www.getup.org.au/ourABC
This is far from the first time politicians have tried to sell off our independent public resources. In 2006, when Howard tried to further slash funding to the ABC, GetUp members came out in force, holding grassroots demonstrations around the country, and forced a back down.
Earlier this year, members chipped in to run a national ad ensuring that the Victorian state Liberals backed down from threats to privatise the ABC.
Join the fight again?

Some businessmen, alarmed and alert
our loved ABC tried to subvert
By buying the pollies
to get all their jollies,
Those nefarious, blackhearted stuffed-shirts

But really. We need a media, a news service, which is beyond the influence of commerical interests and their agenda.
The ABC is the only service which fulfills this essential criterion.

This is a petition that is a must sign. If we want an unbiased ABC not littered with ideologues & groupthink then a full review is badly needed.
We also need a commision of audit regarding all the online & radio the ABC now controls with their left bias that the taxpayer pays for. They have unfetterd power that reeks of a state owned control the likes of China & other non democratic countries.

BLYGF: "We, the undersigned, request that the Australian Press Council conduct an investigation into News Corp Australia’s media coverage of the 2013 Australian federal election campaign.
"We also request that appropriate action is taken to prevent this from happening again in the future."
"The APC has no legal or legislative power to discipline the press", plus the above is completely lacking in specific details
"Press Council chairman Julian Disney says little weight is given to the number of complaints made about an article,
“The council is only concerned with things that breach its principles, not with things that may be desirable or undesirable for other reasons,”
“We don’t put a huge lot of emphasis about how many people complain, because we know that firstly a lot of people who are greatly concerned won’t go to the length of complaining, and also people may just be very effective in triggering people to send a standard form complaint.”
"He said the Press Council was drawing all editors’ attention to its guidelines on election coverage, developed in 2009,that did accept a publisher’s right ‘‘to favour the election of one party and to oppose the election of another’’,
However if "signing" a toothless petition gives you a warm "pink" glow, that might just help lessen the nagging PPTSD.

Now now MM, I only posted that petition because it seems to be the preferred method of the labbies, to ruin a business or to make "themselves" seem like they are doing something, engaged, galvanize the chattering classes, twitter & mamamia blogs, nana blogs, mummy blogs & left wing fringe blogs & publications.
They are very fond of disregarding all media unless it's left biased, they are fond of posting threads on here demonizing all News Corp publications & yet they avidly read all of them & complain when articles are paywalled. They post methods on how to circumvent the paywalls so my little post is a foil to their actions.
