FACT
1. Internet data flow speed is limited to the speed of the slowest link between source to destination, regardless of the transport medium used.
(Be that copper, optic fibre, wireless or even wet string)
MYTH
Propagation of signal using Optic Fibre is faster than propagation of signal using copper.
(Propagation in both mediums is 66% plus or minus 5% of the speed of light in a vacuum)

The landline (VOIP, using exisiting phone) I had with the NBN cost $15 per mth. Compare that to landline monthly fees in the past ($30 of calls etc incl, which we never used the full amount).
With the NBN, you don't even need a phone line. For people who prefer to only have a mobile phone, there is not cost for a landline if they don't require one.

But the NBN providers will compete with each other
Of course they will and do already.

FACT
Apparently Victoria already hooked up all of its schools and universities, hospitals and the like with fibre..
The NBN is forcing it all to be shut down and moved onto their network... at a HUGE cost to the taxpayer.
I heard this on the radio today...
would love to know more about this if anyone has more details.
Fact or Myth?
I vote Myth.

Not much room to move if the supplier to them all has a monopoly.
If the RSP jacks the price up so will all the ISPs
Simple economics
1 Create a demand (real or imginary)
2 make people dependant on the commodity
3 Allow the commodity to reach saturation
4 Skyrocket the price

No if one provider Jacks up the price others will undercut them with cheaper deals and if that original provider doesn't budge it loses business.
