Inventing the wheel a-new

post your examples here.

I start with the icecream machine.

we had an icecream  machine about...25 or 30 years ago. it was a round tray made of aluminium, in the middle was the engine to turn the blades.

it was about 7 or 8 cm high and you put your ice cream mix into it, plug it in and pop it into the freezer for a few hours until it was done. the blades or wings of the machine had hinges that would fold themselves up when the icecream turned solid. so even if you forgot about it all would be fine and when you remembered to open the freezer the engine was still going but the blades were up in the air, no harm done to the engine and the ice cream ready to eat.

the modern misimproved  version is about 25 cm high, so it does not fit into the freezer without major trouble.

it is filled with some cooling liquid so the idea is that you freeze the bowl with the cooling liquid, then take it out of the freezer, put in your ice cream mixture, turn the engine on and then it makes ice cream.

does not work as the liquid does not store enough cold to make the ice cream mixture into ice cream. it stays liquid.

there was an easy ice cream machine, they made it in the dark ages about 30 or so years ago.

what possessed them to present us with this "new" thingie that does not work at all when there was a perfectly fine working ice cream machine?

what are they thinking? why invent the wheel a-new thinking "oh, we already have a round wheel. let's make it squary this time just for the sake of it!"

AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH
