that is sad and wrong but has nothing to do with this pig of a person killing an elephant for his own gratification.

umm, there are tribes today that still hunt for a living
and if it wasnt for our hunting and gathering past we wouldnt exist

The tribes who hunt do it for their livelihood. they don't have supermarkets do they, lol.
And back to the OP, as far as I know we don't eat elephants.

I would condemn any person who shot an elephant for sport.
Trophy hunting is easy to organise via the internet and elephants, lions, leopards and hippo can be legally shot in cold blood in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Tanzania.
A lot of countries (US is one ) don't allow the hunters to bring the 'trophy' home either. Which makes it even more senseless to go hunting for a 'trophy'.
Many animals that are commonly targeted by trophy hunters have been included on the list of endangered species. Depending on the animal, the trophy may not be brought into Australia, or may need a permit to do so.

I guess we can also include the regular fisherman amongst this list as well, who catches and kills fish, or maybe get a kiss and thrown back.
personally i enjoy fishing and became interested purely coz i love eating sea food
and i can understand why people get into sport fishing too, as its fun to catch them, but i think its distressing on the fish
i knew a bloke who literally spent 100s of thousands of dollars on the sport and never ate sea food
in the end he hung himself, no doubt there was something wrong up top

sorry about the old mate Joz.
i'd fish to eat more if i had the opportunity, but my favored spots are 1000km away. i used to own a boat jointly with my father, he'd bring my younger brother around and send him in to wake me up at some ridiculous hour and we'd go out before sunrise . i used to get some sleep on the way out on the foredeck, and fell in the drink a few times. we'd come home about midday- one o'clock and have a fish meal on the marbecue. i havent gone out much since his death 25 or so years ago, but i'd say it was the best time i spent with him.
