The question is, should government influence our education systen?
When governmet says it wants the same opertunities for every child is it really saying that it wants uniformity in education , such as what is being taught and how it is being taught.?
Is it better to have diversity in education as to what and how kids are educated?

This is yet another attempt by government to homogenise the populace into an unrecognisable mass of non-individuals.
Government is saying “Let us tell you what you want and need, now go consume like good little sheepies, we have got your back"
and telling us how to think, and telling our kids that despite their backgrounds, their worth and value is determined by their performance against benchmarks which may not even have any relevance to them.

No, I'm not a fan. I'm just an eBay member who asked a pretty easy question. What's the answer?

Yes J there is no other can compare to your loyalty, but you neglected to answer my question.

Being brainwashed from an early age does that, and it is happening in schools. Unfortunately
parents, having also been brainwashed, leave the education of their children to others. escecially when they have been convinced that the kids are getting the "best education" possible.
I'm not sure that I would use the word brainwashing - maybe a less powerful word, but the rest of the post I wholeheartedly agree with.
I once believed that all I had to do was enroll my kid in the school designated by the enforced zones, and that their education would be taken care of, as long as they turned up etc and had the necessary equipment and books.
I think it was only a week or so before that fairytale was blown out of the water.
One thing I don't understand, and maybe someone can explain it to me, is how we ended up with a National Curriculum anyway? Our Constitution does not give the Federal Govt power over education.
(BTW, I agree with a National Curriculum - it just needs more refinement in its delivery and expectations)

Give some examples then... of how these children are brainwashed by getting an education in Aust and what effect does it have on them when they leave school. .. after completing primary and seconday school and continuing on to Tafe or Uni and getting a good, is getting well paying job a BAD thing?
If you have children OP, did they get a bad education instead of a best one?

Kazza, I dont know if you are a parent or not, but if you have not worked out by now that education is an ongoing event that should be extended to the entire length of a life and not bound by any curriculum.

Nothing stopping people from learning the rest of their life AFTER they have completed their school education.

You have to go no further than the diatribe that Kazza has put up on the 97% thread on global warming

An education system has to suit the majority, not just airy-fairy parents who wants their little Johnny to be able to go out and play on the swings whenever he fells like it, instead of sitting at his desk learning maths.

Oh yes, plodz, I worked that out by reading this thread... and others. Education is terrible, especially English, maths and science. Teaching them is akin to brainwashing kids. In fact, all school is bad because the children have their individuality stolen and are continually brainwashed to think and do other subversive things like that. Ban all school, that's the answer. Lifelong homeschooling is the only answer, so parents can teach ...
that's where I'm stuck. What lifelong subjects should I teach to my child? At 6? At 46? And what educational aids and furniture should I buy for the bunker?
