Is government control of the education system a desirable "reform"

The question is, should government influence our education systen?

When governmet says it wants the same opertunities for every child is it really saying that it wants uniformity in education , such as what is being taught and how it is being taught.?

Is it better to have diversity in education as to what and how kids are educated?

OP instead of just criticising the current system, what do you propose instead? (with details).

What leads you to believe that I am ctiticising anything? We all have to work within the framework that is provided. What i do question is why a lot of parents leave it entirely up to the system to steer their kids in any way that is chosen for them.

I also question the close regulation and control that is being attempted to be imposed on the education system.

I was at the Supreme Court (Syd) on Friday. Should I have questioned the Chief Justice of NSW?

Maybe something like this, OP? No books or scientific material, aluminium stored in the cupboard, chairs suitable for ages 6 - 60?

and plenty of creationist support materials 🙂

It is relevant then for you to state if you have children If so, what did you do different from a lot of parents who leave it up the the system to steer their kids in any way chosen for them.??

An education system has to suit the majority, not just airy-fairy parents who wants their little Johnny to be able to go out and play on the swings whenever he fells like it, instead of sitting at his desk learning maths.

I agree wholeheartedly.

But for an education system to suit the majority (which it is designed to cater to those with an IQ in the range of between 85 and 115 without taking any sociocultural factors into consideration) surely the majority should all have the same resources and equipment available to them to implement it?

Out of curiosity, what happens to the 20% of kids who fall outside the "norm", are they not equally entitled to a fair and just education commensurate with their skills and abilities?

Children should be shown HOW to think not what to think. Any parent who has succeeded in achieving that has done all that is required of them, sadly thoes parents are few and far between
