I was just reading (a particularly boring article) about swearing in the workplace and was wondering what was appropriate or not?
In my office we all swear like crazy and no word is off limits but never in front of clients and never at each other. BUt everyone is young and creative and a little hyper so it kind of goes with the territory.
Is it OK?

when I was nursing, I NEVER EVER swore at work, and I would pull up any other staff member who swore too.
When I worked in the factory, (absolutely no interaction with any public member) Swearing was just a way of conversation, just like any other word. Usually just the F word.
I used to say *Oh, 4 Letter word!* when I needed to swear LOL.
I tell you what else I don't like... I don't like it when you are in a shop (lets say KMart) and you hear the shop assistants talking about their weekend, and who got blind drunk, and who got into a fight with who, and what she wore, and how many drinks they had, and so & so is a B1tch and so forth! Its really really erks me. Its like they don't realise that customers can hear every word they are saying! X-(
I don't swear in public, and I don't think anyone should.
Swearing at work is discretional depending on the place of employment. IMO

... I should also add, that at home amongst friends, we swear like troopers 😄

100% agree.
There is excuse for swearing anywhere where people around you are strangers.

Defiantly NOT.
I would be in HUGE trouble, probably get an official reprimand at LEAST.

my world? if respect is not an on going thing and you swear freely does that not just become a general behaviour habbit?
Yes, your world. Not everyone lives within the same social confines.
What is swearing to some is not considered swearing by others.
Swearing itself it nothing to do with respect.

me too martini.....it's cathartic.....therapeutic even.......lol
Yes, I had a good old swear at a troublesome zipper this morning and it worked a treat.
Zipper understood what STFU meant, it dutifully obliged and I got to chuckle over the power of words on inanimate objects.

Whilst it might be acceptable in some workplaces to swear, I don't think it's necessary.
An intelligent person will always be able to think of a better option than a swear word. Swearing just makes people sound cheap, unintelligent and bogan.
Not saying I haven't sworn (on the odd occasion), but never at work and as I have matured, I defiantly try and make better choices when venting my frustration.
In saying that, there are certain people that swear words just describe so perfectly...you can't help but use them!!! :^O:^O
...but NEVER at work! Or in public! Maybe in a 1-on-1 conversation with my BFF talking about evil ex's!

I like to swear at home, but I don't swear in the workplace or around my Dad..
When I was working at an Op shop, it was charity run and the staff were all Christians (with the exception of one Jehovah's Witness)
It was a bigger effort trying not to blaspheme
