Yes Donna, we will need thousands and they will get very rich here in Australia, building the economy and achieving Tony's goals. Not our economy, but china's.

At $2.00 per hour for a 40 hour week, they'll be earning $1920 per month, and considering the average monthly wage in China is $730.00, that's an incredible wage rise.

Isn't that good!

I wonder what basis will be considered unable to find Australian workers? Ones that don't want to work for $2 an hour most likely!

Hopefully they will send down some 457 journalists as well, I've had enough of this left-wing groupthink from the likes of the SMH apparatchiks, just who do they think they are raining on Tone's parade.

If Gina wants cheap workers, well by golly she'll get them when a few 457 workers slip away from the Chinese-funded projects over to Hancock projects.  She might even set up some JV's with China to circumvent this .... oh hang on ...

Apparently there's an Aussie cook that works on an offshore rig that earns $350K pa - or so I read - no doubt this and other little examples will be trotted out to justify the 457 invasion ...

But it says "should the skills and labour not be available domestically."

I wonder what skills we might have a shortage of? A nurse trained in China would not be able to work here as it would not satisfy our requirements, anybody know what they might be better trained at in regards to these Chinese projects?

Donna there are plenty of examples here in NSW country towns, where o'seas workers are employed and unskilled or semi skilled jobs aren't even advertised in the local town.
