Wow, just read that link.....it's getting well below gutter level these days....I think the media has a lot to answer for in degrading any level of respectful interviewing.....isn't it News Limited who are steam rolling the whole hate campaign generally speaking?
The article is wrong.
She was not asked. She was harassed. He said Tim is gay, not is Tim gay?
That was not a question by any definition. It was plain rude.
If you listen to the interview you'll find they had just talked about their relationship and living arrangements for 5 or more minutes before he slapped that on her.
No male Prime Minister has ever been or would ever be asked that sort of question.

Seriously, what was poor Gillard supposed to say? She was talking to Howard Sattler and he is especially adored by the poor elderly generation in WA and he has come back from ill health. A heart attack of something.
It's just a shame that the elderly wouldn't be quite so poor if not for Colin Barnett and Troy Buswell.
Now Colin is sacking something like 1200 jobs from public service and Troy reckons it will save money. It's a really good package deal they are offering and that will cost a fortune. Not to mention the unemployment afterwards.

It is appalling, this lack of respect that is occurring ..... I am simply stunned at what we are seeing atm in politics but also in general.
Nothing is ever thought about before it is said or done anymore.

I think Gillards response after he asked her (for the THIRD time!) was very apt for this place:
‘‘Oh Howard don't be ridiculous, of course not,’’ the Prime Minister said, while remaining cool and composed. ‘‘On the internet there are lots of [...] nutjobs, people who peddle and circulate vile things."
That last sentence could have been reserved for CS.
As usual, Gillard showed an unbelievable amount of style and decorum when faced with what is fast becoming the standard gutter level type attack on her.

I am with you Az. The lack of respect is astounding.

It's a bit of an eye opener to me the disrespectful way the PM is being treated, just because she's a woman. I thought the world had progressed further than that, obviously not.
imagine a reporter asking TA if his wife was really gay, it would never happen

If a reporter asked Abbott about any aspect of his wifes life, there would be hell to play.
But as you say debra, it never occurs to anyone to question a man about details of his wifes role let alone to repeat ridiculous gossip and ask Abbott to explain himself on behalf of his wife.
It seems only Gillard is fair game.

i basically put my thoughts on the way she is treated on the sexism thread but it is certainly true that no one would ever ask a male politician this question. the term shock jock should be replaced with idiot jock because that is all they are imo. it is not shocking just sheer stupidity. it also annoys me that people like him use being gay as a form of insult showing he is not only idiotic and sexist but also homophobic.
