It's time to stop the vile vitriol about Prime Minister Julia GillardPAUL SYVRET THE COURIER-MAILJUNE 18

LAST week the man likely to be federal treasurer come September fired off, in part, the following Tweet about Prime Minister Julia Gillard: "She has never deserved respect and will never receive it."

...

Unlike the personal vilification and denigration of our Prime Minister, however, it is the stuff that tends to stay where it belongs in the nether regions of the blogosphere.

Which is what makes Julia Gillard and the big smear all the more depressing and extraordinary - so much so that it is now making international headlines like this one over the weekend: "Treatment of Julia Gillard shows extent to which sexism is tolerated in Australia".

The sub-head in The Irish Times newspaper reads: "Prime Minister is attacked relentlessly in contemptible, offensive terms".

"It is almost impossible to picture all of the above (abuse) happening in most other modern countries," the newspaper says. "Can you imagine the outcry if, for instance, a political rival had stood in front of signs calling (former Irish politician) Mary Harney a (edited:rhymes with witch)   or if a menu had referred to her genitalia?"

She has managed to replace Gough Whitlem as the worst prime minister in this country's histort but in doing so she has set the role of women in politics back a few decades.

Interesting - so are we then assume that Gough Whitlanm set the role of MEN in politics back a few decades.

I think you have just exemplified to everyone reading this thread how sexism actually works.

I wonder how many of those people who call Whitlam the "worst PM" would want to abolish Medicare, and go back to the old system where every visit to a doctor had to be paid for at the time, and then you could claim if you had private insurance.

Gough set the role of humanity back a decade and increases the strangle hold by unions on the whole of Australia in the name of social equality.

If we did not have unions people would be working for $2 a day, and for the privilege would queue up each morning at factory gate hoping they will be the lucky ones to get the work.  Or do do you think that people like Gina would be paying decent wages if she did not have to?

Medicare is good for those who cannot afford private health insurance but I still pay at the surgery and have to claim thru medicare so this has not changed.

I know some people who can very well afford private health insurance but don't do it, these are the people who should be made have PHI or penalised to take the drain off medicare, that is the down side and hopefully after July 1 this may change.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)

They are penalised aren't they at tax time if they don't have private health cover? Also, many who do, continue to use the hospitals etc as public patients.

nova, do yo honestly believe that $2 a day nonsense?

Do you really believe that people need an intermediary to negotiated for them?

I personally have always negotiated my remuneration for my services. Everyone has that ability they can either do it as a one on one or as a collective of their workmates.

I have been both employee and employer. As an employer I was receptive to negotiation and never gave in to demands employees were paid their worth as negotiated and it was a win win situation with everyone satisfied. I paid good wages and expected good work in return an got it 🙂 I never employed union members 🙂

As an employee I negotiated my own wages and if there was no agreement then i looked elsewhere. You would be surprised just how many employers welcomed a one on one negotiation process.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

High income earners are penalised and have been for many years if they don't have private health insurance, with the Medicare Surcharge Levy.

The Medicare Surcharge Levy rate is  from 1 % to 1.5% ( varies depending on income

from $168 000 -$260 000+) plus the 1.5% Medicare Levy. (2011-2012 rates) if the taxypayer in these income brackets does not have private health insurance.

(excluding the soon to be introduced extra 1/2% for the NDIS)

ok, so who has been missing for some months??? possibly using alternate id in  place of their regular id. a person equally as nasty ....

i have suspected for a while a missing id is not 'missing' at all, some women can hate other women also. female hate is not only the domain of men....

if would have to be someone that has difficulty maintaining female relationships with family, and friends dont last more than a year or so......now i wonder who that could be???mmmm

Oh my! Yes indeed, the proof has been there all along and I didn't see it. LOL!

You've pinged it I believe! Well done 🙂

What a lot of  twaddle within this thread.

FG: "........i mean supporters reek of a level of hatred for a female i find disturbing...one wonders how many times these id's have verbally and physically assaulted their partners over the years?????...."

I have also been wondering at the apparent resonance that is being shown by one or two here, apropos Precious Me (PM),  and whether it is due to a personal history, a family history, or suppressed memories, because what happens within politics/ house debate requires a tough smart  persona, which Gillard certainly has, but  she chooses to PM to the female electorate, a receptive group, unlike the male listeners. This is not so smart as she requires the male vote.

I wonder why Gillard's support for the oyster hating Slipper is not worthy of discussion, she has his "vote"!
