It won't work.... I watched a court proceeding recently (childrens) and spent time in the waiting area with all the offenders...... they all boasted about their crimes, knew what their sentence would be etc etc.. (none were first timers)... it was a woman, she gave them a stern talking to... and a no conviction recorded. (just as they predicted):|

I have lived in Brunswick for 20 years. I used to never be afraid of anything or anyone. This horrible case has effected me very badly. I know he is locked up, but to think this could happen at the bus stop that I use every day is just horrifying and I haven't felt very safe since. When I see her family it makes me so sad. I can't believe the husband is still living in Australia, I would want to run home and get the hell away form this place. It is so so sad and revolting.

i was talking about this yesterday to my partner. our justice system is rubbish. as far as I am concerned anyone who commits a premeditated crime such as rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse or murder should be put away and never allowed walk free again. it takes effort and thought to commit these crimes and I don't care what anyone's background is they are still able to make a choice between right and wrong. being drunk or drugged is also no excuse because the person has the choice to drink or take drugs.
I also believe that if tougher sentences were handed out for many other crimes it may actually have some effect. a stern talking to has no effect it is just a joke.

Adrian Ernest Bayley has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jill Meagher and 15 years for her rape.
Judge set non-parole period of 35 years to give Bayley incentive to attempt to reform in jail.

DDB, I with you
I hope that we all do our part in prevention as I feel that this is true and a concern.
Children growing up in Australia in 2013 are watching the news and observing how Julia Gillard is being treated. They are learning about what is respectful, acceptable behaviour and what can reasonably be considered a joke. As adults, we are modeling for them values about gender and sexuality.

and out earlier for good behaviour no doubt 😞

Hopefully not earlier. It's a minimum of 35 years. It should have been 45 years and then he would be in his mid 80s before release. He should never have been on the streets and we don't want him back regardless of him reforming or not.
