Jihadist attacks killed more than 5,000 people in just one month, an investigation by the BBC World Service and King's College London has found.

Civilians bore the brunt of the violence, with more than 2,000 killed in reported jihadist incidents during November 2014. Islamic State carried out the most attacks, adding to the spiralling death toll in Iraq and Syria. Explore the map to find out more.

Isn't it funny how when Muslims kill it is called Jihad. But when other countries kill it is called War?

And to put that number into perspective, if indeed 5000 civilians were killed in one month, that compares to the Vietnam War thus:

• Just over 9000 an average per month were killed over the length of the war
• Of those just over 1000 a month were killed by the US military alone.

The vast majority in both cases above were civilians and the figure from a single country.

In comparison, the 5000 figure in the OP is a total from 14 countries of which 10  have had long standing civil wars. Also should be noted that and were close to 50% were military deaths taking part in battles.

We are by the way talking about this decade not a war that was 40 years ago.....

With your figures, so what you are saying is the VC/NVA killed 8000 per month over the entire length of the war ?

That seems a very high number, of civilians especially considering civilian areas were not bombed.

In additon, most major pitched battles between the US and VC/NVA resulted in more casualties for the VC/NVA.

(This applies to Australians as well (Long Tan) but they stayed away from our area as we were too good.)

20,000–35,000 versus 147 killed by the Iraqis and 145 non combat deaths.

the 20 - 35,000 is an estimate because they carpet bombed the Iraqi regiments in place and didn't bother going

to look to see the result, they used bulldozers to bury whole regiments alive by collapsing the trenches and

didn't dig them up afterwards, They reckon 12,000 were buried alive under the sand.

And then of course you had the Highway of Death.

I think the rule is, don't try to bully your neighbour, his mate might come along and give you a bloody nose !

The "Jihad" invoked by the war mongers is simply a case of murder and holds no respect to a true Muslim.

The ones recruited from other countries would be coerced by promises of total control over woman captives

and possibly the promise of an unrealistic afterlife,(which should be debunked by all nations).

The military dismissed Kerry’s testimony at that time, but his contentions are confirmed now in historian Nick Turse’s meticulously researched new book Kill Anything That Moves: The Real American War in Vietnam (Metropolitan Books). The book is based on over a decade of research sparked by Turse’s discovery of the papers of the Pentagon’s “Vietnam War Crimes Working Group.”
