Former Prime Minister John Howard has told anyone offended by Tony Abbott's controversial comment that a Liberal Party candidate had "sex appeal" to "get a life"
while the comment riled many, Mr Howard has branded it "absolutely harmless".
"You've got to have a sense of proportion," Mr Howard told The Australian Women's Weekly this morning.
"Really, that's all I say. Really. Come on. He said what he said and I think the reaction of some people who tut-tutted about it is out of proportion and ridiculous ... Get a life."
The marginal seat of Lindsay, where Abbott was campaigning when he made the comments, is currently held by Labor's David Bradbury, who made headlines in the first week of the election campaign when he lost his cool in a radio interview with SmoothFM.

As spoken by Mr 1950s himself. Why is he relevant to this debate today?

Malcolm Fraser declared that Tony Abbott is a dangerous politician, perhaps one of the most dangerous in Australia’s history.
