A judge has banned a mother from breastfeeding because she got a tattoo, ruling the woman's decision to get it four weeks earlier exposed her 11-month-old baby to an unacceptable risk of harm.
Federal Circuit Court Judge Matthew Myers' decision to grant an injunction to stop the woman from breastfeeding her son comes despite the mother recording negative results on hepatitis and HIV tests.
Judge Myers said there was still an unacceptable risk to the baby because the tests were not conclusive.
The case came before the court because the baby's father raised concerns about the mother's tattoo during a bitter parenting dispute.
(there is more from breast feeding advocates etc in the article)
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of tattoos but really!!

Well if she left him after he took her to court because of their dispute, then it wasn't about gaining custody he already still had.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported Thursday that she had a finger and a foot tattooed in May without telling the tattoo artist she was breastfeeding.
It prompted the 11-month-old boy's father, who is separated from the mother, to take the toddler to live with him, claiming his former partner had mental health and drug issues.
The woman petitioned the Federal Circuit Court and in an interim hearing on June 5 it agreed she should have primary care but must not breastfeed due to the risk that she contracted a blood-born disease when having the tattoos.
it looks like he wants custody.....I suspect that's the real reason. Does seem to make more sense.

THe results won't be really accurate for another 2 months. BUt seriously, don't think mum is competent enough to look after the baby.
i don't think dad is any better from the sounds of it....

so its come to light that the dad has an AVO against him and is on a good behaviour bond for assaulting the mum - i think his 'concern' is clearer now....

This seems kinda silly, I mean what are they going to do?, put a lock on her bra strap or something? Does she face heavy fines or penalitys if she feeds her baby? Will they take the child away?
I have to wonder how this ever came about to be known. Both getting a tattoo, and nursing are things i would think would be no one's business other than the one doing it. How would the court or judge even know?

One would think that she would know better and stop breast feeding if there was even the slightest risk to the child.
Another tattooed bogan who couldn't care less, seems like.

The risk is defiantly there , tattoos can bring lots of diseases with them , you can't give blood for up to five years after getting a tattoo,
So good on him, it's not always a case of mother knows best sometimes fathers know best
YOUR WRONG. Been a blood doner for 20 years, with tattoos. After getting a new tattoo you cannot donate foe several months, not five years. Ring the bllod service and find out some facts. In this case the father does not now best, his is just a bitter man
