Junk Food Consumption Leads To Memory Loss

We already know our crippling cheese addiction was contributing to growing brie belly but now we'll have to add diminished brain function to the list of side effects as well.

Researchers in Australia believe they've found a link between diets high in sugar and fat and a decline in cognitive abilities. After placing rats on a steady diet of McRibs and milkshakes—or whatever the lab study equivalent might be—they noticed that within just six days the critters suffered from impaired memory.

"Poor diet was associated with a cognitive decline that happened very quickly," lead researcher Margaret Morris told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "We were surprised at how fast it was." The scientists noticed inflammation in the hippocampus, the section of the brain related to memory formation and storage. Within six days, the animals "performed less well on a spatial memory task," which indicated that the inflammation was "probably highly relevant for the cognitive decline," according to Morris. This doesn't bold well for the once-a-week cheesesteak diet.

Similar effects have been observed in humans including a loss of executive function, including delayed reaction time, after just five days of eating junky foods.

This could have serious implications, especially as humans age and other factors contribute to memory loss and general cognitive decline.

Further studies are needed to determine if improving one's diet to a so-called "optimal diet" can result in memory improvements. That's if you can manage to quitting your french fry diet at all.

I wondered what they meant by "brie belly" as I love a bit  brie and camembert, also blue vein, so I googled it, but found only a disgusting reference to it which I've already forgotten.

I don't mind a bit of Macca's, but I don't have it often.

I liked their sweet chili wraps but they've discontinued them now. Love their fries. Love their fruit crushies.

And to think that McDonalds has introduced a home delivery service - so now you can lose your memory in the comfort of your own living room Man Frustrated

"The global fast food giant has quietly introduced a trial of home delivery in  a Sydney outlet that is in one of the city's most disadvantaged areas and has  one of the highest levels of obesity.

North Parramatta's McDelivery service is offering ''family value'' packs  containing hamburgers, soft drinks, chicken nuggets and fries (with the option  of side salads) between 5pm and 9pm every day.

A McDonald's spokeswoman said the trial, which includes a $4.95 delivery fee  and a $25 minimum, commenced on November 27 and had so far been ''well  received'' ."

Omg I just looked that up, the Tecoma McDonald's outrage!

That is just disgusting how Macca's monstered on over the wishes of the community.

Goes to show how firmly Australia is in the hands of the internationals.

"VCAT overruled Yarra Ranges Council’s decision, deeming the overwhelming objections of the local community as irrelevant“, and granted McDonald’s planning permission for this highly inappropriate and unwelcome development."

Good on the Tecoma and surrounds community!

Also on the Gnomes, I would have loved to see a pic of that!

Gnomeageddon.jpg

"In a quirky twist, the Dandenong Ranges Gnome factions also expressed their concerns at the proposed development and the impact it would have on their environment."

"The ancient prophecy of “Gnomeageddon” came to fruition on February 4th 2013 as two hundred Gnomes gathered on the steps of McDonald’s Melbourne Headquarters, placards in hand, in protest of McDonald’s refusal to communicate with the human inhabitants of the mountains and their relentless intent to destroy the Gnome’s habitat."

Well here's something new and different for you all..

My Blue Heeler is allergic to all grain products so he's on a fruit, vegetable meat and sometimes fish diet.  For convenience sake my miniature Poodle is also on it.

Now, the the last six years neither of them have put on any extra weight... so one day, thinking that I really did need to lose some weight I decided to do the same for me.

I CUT OUT ALL GRAIN PRODUCTS... no more bread, cake, biscuits, rice, macaroni, spaggetti, no grains at all.

I lost 10 kilos in 5 months an that was a year ago.  I have reached my BMI weight and it hasn't altered one iota despite the fact that I now eat butter on my greens, full cream milk and cheese... along with all the greens, meat, fish, fruit and veges.  I rarely eat tinned food as I don't, now, like it.

If I go out to lunch I will splurge and have a bread roll or a sausage roll, and I do use rice crackers occasionally....

I have come to the conclusion that diaticians talk a lot of rubbish about a lot of foods because they are not allowed to talk about the processes that our grain foods go through before we get them.

Humans didn't even eat grains untill they became farmers and left the 'hunter and gatherer' life behind.

Try it, you might be surprised Smiley Happy

Its quite unbelievable that they were allowed to build there, 90% of the community are against it, its going to cripple all the other businesses. I live in the Dandenong Ranges and we already get Maccas rubbish throughout the bush and our closest is 20+ minutes away. Apparently the Tecoma one will be the closest in the world to a national park. Not to mention almost directly across the road from a kindergarten and primary school.

The latest photos of the frame going up show it almost completely obscuring the ranges behind it. Its nothing but an eyesore and I hope they go broke and have to pull it down.

Are they relying on the local community for trade, or the passing tourism trade?

Passing tourists, I doubt that it will be an attractive place for them to stop with all the protestors hanging around though, they dont intend giving up.

If I get a chance later I'll link to a clip from an elderly lady who lives right next door, there is a block of units for older people right on the fenceline. Everything else in Tecoma is shut by like 9 or 10pm, maccas has a 24 hour permit so these elderly people have all night, lit up trading to look forward too as well as the hoons, rubbish and carpark drug deals that maccas are famous for. Its the kind of thing people move to the hills to get away from.

Punch, the traffic along Burwood Highway near where they are building is dreadful at the best of times, without them being there.
