Keep your money in a tin or savings account. It appears that no one is safe any more.

I got robbed yesterday.
$1000.00 was swiped for my debit card. Sure glad I didn't have more in their.

$60.00 , $200.00,  $200.00, $200.00, $200.00, $200.00 all in a row.

You would think this would have made some alarm bells go off.

Since I fell for a PayPal phishing scam 12 years ago I have been watertight where emails and phone texts are concerned. Pretty sure my card was skimmed when I shopped ( physically ) in a new store yesterday.
I thought they couldn't get the CCV but...

"The printed CVV on your card is embedded in the card's magnetic strip. The chip has a digital CVV equivalent called the Integrated Chip Card Card Verification Value (CVV). So when you use your card in person, whether you swipe or insert the chip, your CVV will still be confirmed."
The bank ( NAB ) says the investigation will take 3-5 weeks.

No indication as to whether I will get my money back.

They gave me a pile of bs saying that criminals can make up the numbers but it's a bit of a stretch to generate a card number, expiry date and CCV
Does anyone know if I can get the cops to pay this shop a visit ?

Golden rule from now on is to only maintain a balance for day to day and PP's.

NAB will do that as part of their 'due diligence'.

The cyber team will look into it.

As far as '3 to 5 weeks' goes.....it used to be '3 to 4 months'

I'm sorry this has happened to you

Still got me stumped as to why NAB didn't red flag.

Funny thing is that on all normal transactions there is

a link to dispute a transaction but it wasn't present on

any of the fraudster's transactions.

Those rfid sleeves are a good idea but when you you

whip out the card it can be open to skimming.
I thought a few inches but apparently someone can be

3 metres away.

Fingers crossed for getting my money back.

Wishing you well twyngwyn

That’s terrible, fixnwear.

It might have been card skimming as you suggest; just don’t count out the possibility of stolen card details online.

Your bank will do the investigating. It doesn’t sound as though there are grounds for refusing to cover the fraudulently taken funds, so I’d be optimistic at this point.

It’s good that you noticed what happened so quickly.

I'm really sorry to hear this has happened

But please do keep all possibilities in mind

I don't know if you use Outlook at all, BUT

Mine was hacked maybe a month ago (luckily I happened to be online and got an 'instant' notification it happened. I got to it in time, but, several days later I overheard someone in the chemist talking to a staff member about their Outlook being hacked, and they did have everything linked to it cleaned out (bank/PayPal were a couple of things they said) The staff member responded that another staff member had the same thing happen to them, also with Outlook

I thought I'd mention it, just in case you do

I am also surprised your bank did'nt find it odd too

I wonder if other people in the store also got done, or if it was 'the store' or a random grub going from store to store doing their grub thing

I wouldn't have noticed until later in the night when I do a daily balancing.

My card was declined twice in the supermarket.

Luckily I had my wife's as well and it worked just fine.

10 minutes later I was home and saw the plundering and rang the bank immediately.

Very odd that none of the transactions had a dispute link

I also logged into the wife's account and breathed a sigh of relief.

I evacuated most of the funds to my son's account for safe keeping just in case.

My son suggested keeping major funds in PayPal.

I don't use the NAB app because I don't trust smart phones but I am wondering

if the app notifies you whenever any transactions occur .

Early days and fingers crossed.

Thanks for injecting some optimism.

Wishing you well countessalmirena.

So sorry to hear this.

I hope they have cancelled the card & are reissuing another.

Perhaps - only put a couple of hundred into a debit card - transferred when needed from another account - not used with a card.

They can't take what's not there.
