Koko the sign language gorilla dies age 46

Sad news.

There was an afternoon news report today on one of the commercial TV channels where the reporter referred to Koko as 'he'.  Grrrrrr.  You'd think he'd have made the effort to get the fact the Koko was female right for the report.  Probably more interested in getting his face on television.

Don't be too quick to shoot the messenger - they get their "facts" from a teleprompter.

But your observation about him being more interested in getting his face on television is spot on..

Goodbye Koko, and thank you - the world was a far more interesting place because you were in it.

I guess it's possible that the reporter had never heard of Koko (frankly hard to imagine).  If I was reading text off a teleprompter I'd have changed he to she. *shrugs*

It's like watching an old episode of RSPCA Animal Rescue.  I watched one episode where the RSPCA inspector rescued a cat which was referred to as he throughout the whole segment.  He must have been a rare cat indeed - a male tortoiseshell and white feline.  Rather unlikely with those colours and coat pattern. 🙂
