Is Sonia Kruger right about ‘reverse discrimination’?

THE furore over Sonia Kruger’s latest controversial remarks has reignited the debate over so-called “reverse discrimination”.

When the television host slammed an LGBTI scholarship on Today Extra yesterday morning, she tapped into a deep chasm in popular opinion over which Australians deserve a helping hand.

Speaking out against a $7000 scholarship being reserved for a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex high school student,

Kruger argued that sexuality should not have anything to do with the selection process and scholarships “should be given on merit”.

This prompted her co-host David Campbell to retort that young sports stars have access to a long list of educational scholarships, arguing that the Australian Business and Community Network Scholarship Foundation’s decision to support LGBTI kids was “hardly a big deal”.

Far from being an analphabet as some people like to portray her Sonia Kruger is not uneducated. She most recently gave her opinion concerning a scholarship made available for a LGBTI person. Kruger proved she is no captive of girouettism. She seems to be violently imbued with a functioning mind which is in tune with a lot of other people. Her TV colleague correctly pointed out that people with sporting prowess are also rewarded with scholarships. Yes, that is true however those scholarships are not based on sexual orientation. I wonder if the TV channel she works for is using her as a cat’s paw.

A policy of handing out scholarships to LGBTI people is inchoateness.

or could it be that the majority of free thinking australians are get sick and tired of the PC brigade pandering to the seemingly growing minority groups? educational scholarships should be solely merit based, no special treatment for any group.

By merit do you mean the ones who work hardest or the ones who happen to be more naturally gifted?

those who deserve it due to working diligently towards their goal. sex, race, or other things should not come into play.

This theory that all people should receive the same regardless of where they are coming from assumes that all people are starting from the same place.

there is discrimination throughout our society, in fact our lives are based on discrimination.

lets look at sonia kruger herself

would she have got the job shes in without discrimination working in her favour?

if she was the same person but overweight would she have got the job?

if she was the same person but had one arm missing would she have got the job?

most likely not IMO

she got the job because amongst other things she 'fits the bill' of morning tv co host.

top of that list is looks good in a dress also IMO.

Have you got a slightly more credible source than that David?

Surely you don't think the Chaser has it right when the next item has Malcolm Turnbull nominating Tony Abbott for the post that Kevin coveted.
