A former Labor Party lobbyist has been found dead in his East Melbourne home after being charged by police with entering an agreement for child sex services.
The body of Andres Puig, the former assistant secretary of the state Labor Party and former director of The Civic Group, was found in his Powlett Street home just before 6.30pm on Friday.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokeswoman for Victoria Police said the 44-year-old had been charged with 'enter agreement for child sex services' and 'produce and possess child pornography'. The charges related to alleged offences in 2019.

disgraceful behaviour regardless of political allegiances.
Other parties have their share of scandals too:
A former NSW Liberal staffer says her request for an internal investigation into an alleged sexual assault by a fellow Liberal went nowhere.
The National Party ends its political year as it began, engulfed in a sex scandal that's forcing MPs into hiding, fearing blowback from their electorates.

During the the Victorian state election, one candidate (with a fairly questionable social media history) quit on election eve after a rape allegation became public. Before this came the curious case of Footscray candidate Angus McAlpine, whose years-old lyrics performed in his pre-politics career as a rapper — featuring references to date rape and “choking a **bleep**” — weren’t enough to sink his candidacy. Meanwhile, federal Higgins candidate Jason Ball has faced (and refuted) allegations of sexual misconduct too.

thing is, within any profession you will have a reflection of society.
There are sex offenders/predators in society as there are in political circles, sports players, judiciary/lawyers, teaching profession, clergy, the media, the acting profession, musicians . . . l could go on (but I won’t).

And, in most instances, when they're found out they are put on leave pending a determination or summarily sacked. Unless they are a politician whose vote is needed by a government.
Which isn't the case in this case. He was a lobbyist and he killed himself in penance.

oh boy!!!!
I know I am dragging up an old thread, and it pains me to do so, but new information makes adding to this thread very relevant.
The revelations of the last few weeks have been astounding. The Higgins allegations, the historic Porter allegations, the politician reactions, the media reporting, more revelations regarding bad behaviours in parliament!
The allegations around a Queensland member, a doctor no less, are mind-boggling. How can any educated person think that harassing people on Facebook is a good idea? He has taken leave, as have others, and has indicated he will not contest the next election. His vote, as pointed out by davewil over a year ago, is needed in parliament . . . probably why he is not retiring immediately!
Just this morning I read about a NSW Nationals member behaving badly.

At the moment we are mostly hearing about Coalition members and staffers, but you can bet some from the other side of politics will be a little nervous at the moment.
At the very start of this thread I pointed out that it was not just one side of politics. Nothing has changed, pollies behaving badly will continue.
This may just be the political ‘metoo’ time in Australia and we should expect that more people, mostly women, will have the courage to speak up.

The Labour party used to stand for something once upon a time icyfroth. I still will support Labour anytime over Liberal, Greens, Nat etc.. I have to admit that many of the people in Labour now are a joke. What purports to be their leadership now doesn't have some of the realness that Rudd has.
BTW: Puig should have taken his punishment like a man instead of taking the easy way out. Ijn addition to custodial sentences, these types should be subjected to Singapore styled justice. (Corporal punishment)

Not at all - they should be subject to Australian forms of punishment - befitting the crime committed.
