I should add, I do agree with Deb's query about affordability of the posh parental payment. It's frivolous and a huge waste of money, considering the existing LABOR parental leave plan is good enough during the "budget emergency". Coff.

Ms Kelly said the department had wanted to find accommodation “comparable” to The Lodge.

A luxury Canberra property intended to house Prime Minister Tony Abbott is sitting vacant, but it's still costing taxpayers $3000 a week.

Because Australians are primarily (as Mark Latham coined it) aspirational voters - middle class pretending to be upper class through consumerism. Multiple new cars, big screen TVs, overseas holidays, private school fees, 4 bathroom houses, designer duds, false nails - all on middle class incomes, all with huge debts and all crying poor.

Someone once asked a group of us what Kimmy (from Kath and Kim) would vote and it was unanimously agreed she would be a Liberal voter. Need I say more?
