Tanya Plibersek and Michelle Rowland became pregnant and went on maternity leave while being paid their full wage for staying home.
So those two politicians were good enought to get fully paid maternity leave as a work place entitlment but the rest of the population isn't.
Also a lot of public servants get fully paid maternity leave.... most of those work for the Federal Government... then they also get to double dip and get the maternity payment that everyone else gets too!!!!

There are a lot of corporations in Australia that pay their employees when they are on parental leave (full pay)...CBA and other major banks and more.

How long were they off work for? It is called parental leave now.

The double dip factor will be abolished under the libs & the money used to support the Liberal program.
Yes, women in the PS get their full wage, plus they get a very generous super package.
If they get it so should all women & the Labor rant against this is nothing short of hypocrisy & double standards.
The word has gone out so watch out for the full on Murdoch attack from here until the election & the cries of agony when they lose & blame it all on Murdoch. Of course Australians are so stupid we need a newspaper to tell us what to think.
Go Tony & get that PPL up & running. ![]()

The company doesn't need to pay for the parental payment because everyone pays for it. That should be a good vote winner.

What rubbish.
Something like 90% of women in this country get parental leave as part of their workplace agreements. It doesn't matter if they are public servants, shop assistants, lawyers.
So in theory, ALL women get a chance to double dip UNTIL THEIR AGREEMENTS RUN OUT. To talk about women in the public service (median salary range $45,000 and with standard super scheme which will not be paid during maternity leave so not sure why you brought that up) as if they are somehow working the system is ludicrous.
Do you seriously think that Macquarie Bank (which currently has a generous scheme for its female employees) are going to renegotiate the same terms now that Abbott is going to give them $75,000? I suspect that many of these organisation will phase out their own parental leave programs given the overly generous handout from Abbott.
Go Tony & get that PPL up & running.
The irony is astounding. We have to listen to months of bleating on about 'welfare' and handouts and entitlements and 'bleeding hearts' but when the Liberals dole out the cash, it is now apparently a GOOD thing. How laughable.

Where is the double dip factor?
The people I know had to choose, work scheme or govt, scheme. Not take both.

It is in the award... it will not change.
It is like asking people to change the award they are on... it can't be reversed and made worse, any changes can only improve the award.
Freak.. that is what is so unfair... the government employees on this award can double dip. the average joe can't.

I don't understand why we begrudge people a benefit that comes with their job.
If part of having a job with the government is that you get paid maternity leave, then what's the problem? Isn't any qualified person allowed to apply for the job? It's not like it's discriminayory or anything, is it?
Some jobs come with a company car, acommodation, petrol. mobile phone, free food, extra superannuation, free parking, travel, charge card => what's the difference?
If someone can get themselves a job with a particular benefit, then why do we begrudge them of that just becasue "we don't get that"?
If you want the same, get the job.

Since it has been changed it seems that anyone who gets PPL from their employer can also claim fromt he gov. Not only public servants. When daughter had hers she could not take it from gov while getting it from work.

A few of these major corporations/banks were asked by the media this week what they will do. They all said no comment at present, they will wait to see who wins the election. I think they will phase them out also.
