JULIA Gillard might have survived another failed coup but it could still be the end of her reign with the Prime Minister's personal popularity crashing to near-record levels.
Newspoll today has Ms Gillard's preferred Prime Minister ranking falling seven points to 35 per cent - a 19-month low and just one point off her worst result ever.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has again surged ahead as preferred PM, rising five points to 43 per cent - leaving an eight-point gap between them.
The polling, run exclusively in The Australian today, has Labor a crushing 20 points behind in the primary vote and 16 points behind in two-party preferred.
Voter dissatisfaction with Ms Gillard has surged eight points to 65 per cent, a level not seen since 2011, and her satisfaction levels fell six points to 26 per cent.

JULIA Gillard's personal standing has crashed to a 19-month low and Tony Abbott is clearly back in front as the nation's preferred prime minister after Labor's "appalling" two weeks of political and policy failure.
Labor's primary vote has slumped five points to a disastrous 30 per cent after a fortnight ending with an aborted leadership spill and mass cabinet resignations, with one in two voters now siding with the Coalition.
The collapse in the Labor vote has completely wiped out the party's recovery in the second half of last year, which was built on the back of the carbon tax compensation, and has entrenched the prospect of a landslide vote against the ALP in the election scheduled for September 14.
After taking into account preference flows, federal Labor's support is eight percentage points below its level at the 2010 election, at 42 per cent - a swing that if replicated in September would remove about 30 Labor MPs and could even put Kevin Rudd's Queensland seat of Griffith at risk.

The whole current political scene is a such a farce, a casual observer could be excused for thinking it a circus staged to distract the public from deeper issues.
Immigration

Considering that every shock jock and opposition member is repeating the circus line at every opportunity it's no surprise to see it repeated here. when we hear things enough we start to repeat and believe.
Immigration. Is it really a huge problem?
You have to ask?
When you include the ever increasing number of boat people arriving on our shore needing to be processed and housed yes. A problem our PM is too busy putting out straw fires within her cabinet to address adequately, yes.
Unemployment? Is it worse than ever or low compared to some times in the past?
You have to ask?
Where do think the thousands of workers layed off by company closures are going to find new jobs when overseas contractors are bringing in their own workforce?
Rampant drug crimes? What's new there.. haven't drugs been causing crimes for years?
Yes they have, and the illicit drug trade thanks to our open trade borders is making it worse. Law enforcement authorities are barley keeping a lid on it. Something our government should be scrutinising instead of worrying about misogyny speeches.
Teenage alcoholism? Is there an increasing number of teen alcoholics? Has it been a problem for years?
Yes it has and it's getting more and more violent and abusive, a shameful blot on Australia. Legislation to raise the drinking age and lower closing times of bars and nightclubs should be addressed, but again, our government is to busy infighting than governing.
Illegal weapons imports? what's new? Is anyone trying to solve the problem? Did the PM mention something about the Feds helping the states to deal with the issue?
See my answer on drug crimes.
Foreign Investment? what about it? Do we need more, less or different rules? Should the govt review these things from time to time?
Foreign investment is fine as long as long as our government isn't bought and sold by it, and is subject to the dictates of the multinational corporations.
It seems when they review anything they are accused of attempting to rabidly change laws.
What ever they do they are demonised.
The Australian public has been very patient with the Gillard government, despite being deceived and misled. Enough is enough.
Every Gillard hiccup is over reported while none of the opposition burps are mentioned.
Ms Gillard is, after all, in government.
The Opposition, on the other hand, is not.

shakes head in wonderment at the deliberate down playing of the very serious position Labor is in and will continue to be.:O

January 13, 2013 Busting bad-news myths about teens
Fiona Baker busts some of the myths about teenagers.
Teenagers often get a bad rap. It can sound like every teen is moody, getting drunk, having sex, being bullied and experimenting with drugs from the moment they hit adolescence.
Yet the facts and figures can tell a different story – and many experts in the area of adolescent health and support are urging parents to promote the good news rather than normalising more risky or unacceptable behaviours.
Robyn Richardson, who is national manager program development at Life Education Australia – which provides drug and health education at schools around Australia – sa...
Alcohol: Almost 60 percent of 12-17 year olds have never consumed alcohol, according to the 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, and the number of 12-15 year olds abstaining from alcohol increased from 69.9 percent in 2007 to 77.7 percent in 2010) as did the number of 16-17 year olds (from 24.4 percent to 31.6 percent).
Cannabis: Only 14 percent of all secondary school students aged between 12 and 17 years reported using cannabis (marijuana) at some time in their life, according to the 2008 Australian secondary school students’ use of tobacco, alcohol, and over-the-counter and illicit substances, which means that a whopping 86 percent never have.Ecstasy: More than 96 percent of teens aged under 18 have never used ecstasy.

Is it really as bad as some believe ?
No Iza it's worse. Teens grow into adults and their habits grow into addictions. Some can fund themselves, others have to turn to crime.
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/doctors-call-for-drastic-new-measures-to-target-binge-drinking/story-e6freuy9-1226604103547
"Alcohol is responsible for 65,000 hospitalisations and 3000 deaths in Australia each year, with research putting us in the top three countries for alcohol abuse."
"Studies also show one in three teenagers and one in seven adults who drink at risky levels admit they consume so much alcohol at least once a month that they black out."
Restricted licensing laws, shorter opening times for clubs and bars, raising the legal drinking age would help.
If you'd like to focus on teenage alcoholism, perhaps start a new thread about it.

Yes of course, Iza,
It's considered impolite to hijack someone elses thread pursuing a completely different topic than the one the OP introduced.
Best to start one's own.

does that apply to all of the other posters who posted on various issues you bought into the discussion prior to me ?
