Lift/tram etiquette

Why do people here stand right in front of the lift/tram doors (blocking the way out) and then look surprised when there is someone inside?

Every time we use a lift that happens.

Although I know that Adelaide is an oversized village rather than a real city I also know that lifts have been around here for many years.

Is it like that in other cities in Australia or is it just Adelaide?

I could understand that sort of behaviour from someone who has never seen a lift/tram in their life and I am wondering what is going on in their heads?

Where I come from people line up un the sides of the doors of lifts and trams so the people inside the lift/tram can get out first. Then, when everyone got out the peple waiting on the sides of the doors get in.

Nope, not just Adelaide, Perth too.

I work in high rises, I carry a large bag full of cleaning gear, a mop, bucket and vacuum cleaner and as soon as the elevator doors open I'm in a crush of people trying to get in, and they have the hide to get narky with me cos my stuff touched them. Money doesn't buy manners obviously.

Took a train into the city with a friend to see a concert last week (even though I detest public transport), we knew the station would be crowded, there was a large family targeted event on. We weren't prepared for the amount of people effectively shoving us back onto the train in their push to get on before we could get off. I commented loudly to my friend that we were taught to stand back and allow people to alight before boarding, these people were clearly not teaching their children the same things.

I haven't decided whether I am getting more cranky as I age, or manners really are disappearing, either which way, it's annoying me.LOL

Lis as I have gotten older my tolerance has fallen along with my care factor, if people want to be rude I dont hold back these days and say the things I use to think.
and as for any one standing in the way when I get out they are likely to be pushed aside.

I had one ignorant woman in the Eliz shopping center one day holding her trolley across the main walk way while standing there having a chat to some equally considerate being, between them they had blocked of more than half the walk way.

I had a trolley full of drinks and it had a lot of weight, it hit her trolley and spun it around, she started to say something until she turned and saw me glaring at her and she stopped mid sentence and moved her trolley.

I often wonder if people are really this stupid or are they just ignorant

Wth lifts & trains/trams  - people have to get off before people can get on.

I guess some just think they are more important than others and try and shove their way in to get the 'best' seat/spot while other passengers are still getting off the train It is nuts for those waiting to get on the train to crowd around the front of the doors, before the people on the train get off. Especially if you have a suitcase, those people are really in the way.

I am 'left handed' and naturally stand on the right side of escalators.. every one else is on the left. So annoying to those who want to zip up/down the right hand side. I don't go on many escalators though and not at peak times (at train stations).
