Feeling generous so I thought I should answer some unanswered posts.
Just some of the wonderful positive things that the CURRENT Government has done/plans to do in the interest of????
The size of the cutbacks and sell-offs
The listed measures below reveal the size of some of the cutbacks and sell offs that the BCA and Abbott's Coalition Government wish to achieve and will carry out through the imprimatur of the audit commission:
• 20,000 public services jobs to go. The running cost of the federal public service is 15% in a $400 billion budget
• The sale of Medibank Private could bring in about $4.5bn
• The sale of the Australian Rail Track Corporation could earn the government $5bn
Below is what the Abbott Coalition Government already intends to slash from the working class and the favours they will pass onto capital and the rich:
• Have abolished the Low Income Superannuation Contribution, which reduces tax on superannuation contributions from workers on less than $37,000 per year. This is an effective tax increase on 3.6 million workers, including 2.1 million women. It means that these workers will be paying more tax on their superannuation than on their take home pay and will have less money in retirement.
• However the government announced that it would scrap the proposed 15% tax on superannuation pension earnings over $100,000. This change will apply to those with more than $2 million in superannuation assets, around 16,000 people. The 1% 'filthy rich' will be very appreciative and save themselves $313m in taxes.
• The Schoolkids Bonus has been scrapped which helped millions of families with the cost of sending children to school.
• The Income Support Bonus has been stopped, which will hurt people on a range of income support programs, including Newstart and Parenting Payments, which are already too low.
• The Mineral Resource Rent Tax for big mining companies will be abolished, not that it collected much revenue. The mining industry sends 80% of its profits offshore.
These measures are to ostensibly reduce government debt, which is currently around $400bn mark or 27.1% of Australia's GDP and eventually create a government surplus.
However the touted cutbacks and sell-offs are not only to assist achieving a surplus budget of 1% of GDP by 2023-24, but to restructure the budget over the long term so that the 'welfare state' will cease to exist, and the state will redirect revenue towards capital.
This 'Austerity Commission' has the objective to snatch back gains that the working class had won in the past and make them wear the burden of capital's economic crisis.

I was waiting for the current Govt fan club to tell us, my last topic totally disappeared and I have no idea why, I have asked said fan club more than once, besides "stopping the boats" what else has the Govt done. Seems that they only wish to talk about boats and the past Govt.

Obviously, many people here think that what this government is doing is wonderful; I guess they must be in the 1% super rich category, which is the only group of people who benefit from all this. By the way I cannot see the cut in allowed right-offs for small business in your list. Didn't it go down to $1000?

20,000 public services jobs to go. The running cost of the federal public service is 15% in a $400 billion budget
None gone yet but increase in staff granted.
Government departments have been quietly given the green light to recruit or keep some of their temporary and casual workers, despite the federal government's ''hiring freeze''.
The public service's workplace authority has confirmed that bosses of eight agencies and departments have pleaded for the jobs of the casuals and temps and that some of them have been given permission to hire.
There were fears for the public service's army of 14,000 temporary workers, many of whom are women, low paid or junior employees, when the freeze on renewing their jobs was announced in early November. The commission will not say which departments are hiring.
CPSU assistant national secretary Louise Persse said the move by the agencies proved the government was making its policy on the run.
''It is a one-size-fits-all policy that only serves to put greater pressure on agencies already hit by successive efficiency dividends and budget cuts,'' Ms Persse said.
''Now the very agencies that were told they had to shed staff have been given permission to go out and re-hire them.
''Clearly the work still needs to be done and this move is confirmation that there aren't enough people to do it.
''This just shows that when it comes to running the Australian Public Service, this government is making it up as it goes along.'

I totally agree with you Donnashuggy, but as there a multiple threads on that and the said fan club will never ever agree with that fact, I am just trying to open a debate/discussion about the current Govt's other "victories" for the people of Australia as they seem so concerned about the Australians that are already here.

It means that these workers will be paying more tax on their superannuation than on their take home pay and will have less money in retirement.
There are 2 issues here for low income earners.
The Low Income Superannuation co-contribution ( where the Govt will match up to $500 p.a. of employees (on low income) own contribution to their super fund. This has been in for a few years (the amount has been lowered over the years though). Scrapped
The Labor Govt recently introduced for low income earners the contributions tax (15%) they paid on any contributions to their super account would be paid back to them annually. A person on a higher income who pays 45% tax and puts some of their pretax salary into super at 15% saves 30% tax. A lower income earner gets no tax benefit.
Scrapped
