I don't particularly but it seems to be one of the trendy things to do.

The old bread board trick has been around for a few years now.  I think Jamie Oliver started it but I could be wrong.

It's a bit like the smear of sauce across the plate.  Luckily people are moving away from that silly idea now.

I haven't seen tonights episode yet but I'm enjoying the show this year.  Quite often if clashes with MasterChef and I prefer that.

We were in Sydney not long ago and were taken to a city latest trendy place. It was down a flight of stairs and when we went inside it was almost pitch black. The waiters carried torches and there were no lights on or over the tables. The food was served on pieces of black slate.
Apparently the idea is that you have maximum privacy and are not aware of the other diners.
It was totally weird and we ended up with most of our food on our clothes.
We weren't paying but I shudder to think what it cost.

I saw the movie "About Time" at the Cinema Jean.  That was how the main character met his wife at one of those restaurants.  It beats the old saying that you eat with your eyes.  One of the pleasures of cooking is to make sure that things look lovely on the plate.

Tapas has been served on wooden boards for years and it is becoming more popular with other foods as well.

Not much different really than serving cheese and fruit platters on a board, and they do tend to use the boards that haven't been chopped up to the max with bread knives LOL

Not sure what others think but I find MKR the least appealing of all the cooking shows.

The "**bleep**iness" and the focus on that side of it detracts from the food, cooking side.

And the media plays it up as well where as the other shows focus on the cooking, food, the challenge.

I agree.  It's just like a Big Brother cooking style and it's more about the characters but I'm still enjoying it for that reason.

I'm a foodie more than the people. Foodie as in type of food and the cooking of it, since I can cook.

Have learnt a few things from Masterchef.
