Just how DESPERATE and out of touch is Gillard
But more importantly, the image perfectly illustrates not just that Julia Gillard is obsessed with spin, but is so bad at it that everything screams “fake!”:
The remarkable image, on sale tomorrow in the latest Australian Women’s Weekly, was not the magazine’s idea. Instead, the concept of a cosy PM knitting a toy kangaroo - while in the company of her cavoodle Reuben - came directly from Ms Gillard’s own staff.
The Prime Minister’s chief press officer John McTernan is credited by the Weekly for coming up with the idea.
After the magazine approached Ms Gillard’s office in April for an interview, Mr McTernan responded that the PM wanted to pose for shots as she knitted a toy kangaroo for the baby of Prince William and expectant wife Catherine.
“It was a no-brainer,” Mr McTernan told the magazine…
Ms Gillard took five hours out of her schedule on May 25 to pose for the photograph at a studio in Alexandria.
Six prime ministerial staffers, including personal stylists and make-up artists, accompanied Ms Gillard to the shoot.
The PM brought several changes of outfit but ended up choosing clothes selected by Women’s Weekly…
“I think I can explain (why I’m doing it),” Ms Gillard tells the Weekly about posing for the photograph. “If there is something I hope that I’ve done for the image of women in public life is that we can go into an adversarial environment like parliament and we can dominate it and make it our own, and we can conquer it.”
Despite being an avowed republican, Gillard said she was happy to knit a royal baby’s gift…
During the actual photographic session, Ms Gillard seemed to have second thoughts. As she took her place in the armchair and took up the knitting needles, the Prime Minister told staffers: “This feels slightly absurd.”
Slightly absurd?
I thought the “blue tie” speech marked the nadir of her spin. Now it’s knitting the bush kangaroo.

This cover could be straight out of the 1950's, the nana dress & the grandpa chair, the whole colour & tone of it screams 1950's.
It can't get any worse for her can it? The clothes she brought to the shoot were no good? so the dress she's wearing is an appalling nana dress one wouldn't wear to the housie.
She's made herself look ridiculous, has trashed all the strong feisty rhetoric she's so fond of spouting, and again pulled the gender card.
How much more can we take from this failure of a govt. the ridiculousness Gillard participates in. This phoney & fake Julia we are getting today not counting all the other phoney Julia personas she participates in.
We have seen the real Julia, the nasty finger pointing Julia, the thin lipped bobbing Julia, the Julia who is backed by the unions to stay in power, the gender war she launched, the lying Julia.
So, this is the real Julia? the one who sits at home & knits? please

JG should have fired her advisors years ago. But WHY do we waste time with such a tripe. Would we be having such a discussion if our male PM would be shown doing something that they enjoy? So, she knits and somebody asked to make something for the royal baby; if she declined it would also make headlines; it really does not matter how she reacted, Bolt&co would have found some nasty spin on it.
Knitting and crochet are relaxing activities, and as others said is definitely NOT a domain of just women. I had learned to knit from a male friend, who had learned to knit in his very exclusive boarding school during WW2, when the children were knitting socks for soldiers.

McTernan, Libs best weapon. You are a miracle man, simultaneously helping Julia and Co out the door, and giving me a rollicking good laugh. How false can she get, and her judgement in going along with this fakery is appalling. 🙂

Just a thought................Did the Womens Weekly pay her for the interview or did she pay them?

I have not stopped laughing and everytime I see the morning paper I have another giggle.
I think they should have put a white cloth doily on her head and put her in a rocking chair and she would pass as a fake copy of the painting of Whistlers mother.
Just how silly and desperate are they to allow such an embarrassing photo to be published, I can only say she should and probably regrets having posed because she looks very uncomfortable.
This is just another gaffe that will back fire on the Labor party, sad.

Are you suggesting that he hang himself LL ? I don't much like him either but I think that is going a bit to far.
Maybe you could knit a balaclava for the PM to hide her embarrassment.

just tying him up would be sufficient. tying him so his face is pressed to gina's backside would be most accurate as a statement.

i thought that being a feminist meant that a woman could choose to do anything she wants. knitting is also incredibly popular again these days among all ages. yes we may well see a difference in a few months but I wonder how many will be crying even bigger tears in twelve months if we do, from the people who are now supporting him.

Of course she and all females can chose to do anything they aspire to even being PM of Australia but she has chosen to jump on the gender wagon.
Being PM has nothing to do with gender, it is about having the ability along with a responsible cabinet to run the country.
I for one will be crying tears of absolute JOY when its all over and this farcical government is defeated. TA may do a very good job and none of us can criticize him until he has had the chance to prove himself.
It's called "a fair go" so I think we should all wait and see.
Besides she looks very awkward the way she is holding the needles.
