I'd like to clarify, good on him that he was able to leave his life of violence and thuggery behind him. My main annoyance is the folk hero status he has gained while never let the truth interfere with a good story, catering perfectly to the underdog mentality of apparently a large number of Australians.
That is how I feel. We glamorise violence too much. We make movies about crims, while people who do great things for our community remain anonymous.
Criminals should be given second chance when they serve their time and get their lives together, but otherwise they should not be given publicity. Although, I have to say I rather enjoyed hearing that he put Alan Jones in his place on air saying: ''Yeah, well I never got arrested in a public toilet in London,'' LOL

He was not being compared to a pedophile, it was about turning his life around.
I don't believe for a minute that the police liked him, nor do I believe he only targeted criminals.

Read served a 17-year sentence after attacking a judge in an effort to get Loughnan released from prison. I believe kidnapping him was also part of that?

Just in the case some people do not know what I was reffering to. In 1988 Jones was arrested and taken to the Mayfair station, where he was charged with "outraging public decency" and "committing an indecent act".

On his death bed he was still embellishing his own hero status.
What a horrible person, leaving that 60 minutes interview as a legacy for his children.
