Greyhounds 'docile and low maintenance' but vet warns of adoption risk for dogs bred to race

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-07-14/animal-behaviour-expert-warns-of-adopted-greyhound-bite-risk/9...

i post this to show i'm not so biased as i could be.

but the story doesnt say if the figures for greyhounds biting include current racing AND pet dogs or just racing or just pets.

ive never heard of a pet greyhound biting anyone but i'm not so stupid to say it never happens.

what i do know is in south australia the behavoural tests a greyhound must pass to be let into the public as a pet is very strict.

no other breed gets tested at all!

i dont know why these 'vets' would talk like this at a time when greyhounds are under huge scruitiny.

its my view if any greyhound taken into a home as a pet turned on another dog, person or child it would scuttle the rehoming system.

it makes sense if a pet greyhound attacks anything it'll hit the news.

I've never heard of a greyhound biting anyone. It usually is other breeds of dog, almost any breed will bite if provoked enough or mistreated.
The same may be said for cats scratching or biting if provoked enough.

this is why i question the 'story'

we are given figures we cant know are true or are even pet greyhounds.

i'm sure a greyhound at the end of a race, all fired up from the chase might bite a handler, particularly if that handler is not a good handler.

i'd really like to see real evidence of greyhounds put out as pets via a reputable adoption organisation have attacked or bitten anyone, or even another animal. unprovoked of course.

To be quite honest, I have always preferred the bigger dog, boxers, geyhounds labradors etc. They seem to make a lot of noise (barking) before they start anything else. I have grown up with these types of dogs and have found that they are like a gentle giant.
