the more we pontificate the harder it will be to keep the flow going... nothing good can come of keeping it going.

I have a question that might be relevant here...

ok.. so a week ago today I had surgery. For those that don't know it was for a hysterectomy. The last four or five days I have had the creepings of depression. All the pain has pretty much gone now it just seem I am in emotional pain... Today was a shocker...

Now I know that going under a general anesthetic can trigger depression, sort of like baby blues, having internal organs removed can trigger it... I also had a mirena and now that has gone so hormones no longer controlled.... being BiPolar just increases all of that multiple times.

has anyone else here experienced depression after surgery??? particularly a hysterectomy?

Okay, if I don't post my opinion again, that's okay?

Nev... that post was to no one directly... it was a comment on what I see happening

This is going to go way off and people that are already hurting are going to hurt even more...

It read to me like another in the long list of sweeping an inappropriate post under the carpet.

Cat yep ...keep you eye on it .. !
I had my first general at 13 ,was a wreck for about 12 months ..back then drs said I was just a hormonal teenager that needed to pull myself together ..37 years ago .
Great help ..?Not
When I was 40 I had a hysterectomy ...same thing .was a light bulb moment for me ( and mum and dad ),thinking back to my first general ..this time went on anti d's .
Few years later another general ...same thing ..
Having an anesthetic is huge when you think about it ... Specially on the brain.
Post surgery can leave you feeling vulnerable , in hospital you feel safe iykwim ..
The you come home to recover and the vulnerability seems to feel worse .
I always tell friends to be aware if they are having an op ..and if they get down to see the dr ..and to keep an eye on their teenagers .can take along time to get out of you system .

Good luck with your recovery ..you will be new woman before you now it !

Now Pepe, that was in no way meant to hurt Deb, I was just warning everyone that purple is in a very fragile place at present, and I was hoping she would stay out of here until things got better for her.

Deb really nothing more than a warning.. I was afraid she would say something and didn't want anyone hurt.

Sadly she spoke up for herself and didn't express herself as well as she might, so now there is discord.  Please don't feel badly about this.

These sorts of things happen when someone is going through a very fragile time, and there is little that one can say that is right or good or even supportive.

This thread will have hiccoughs along the way, it is a very fragile thread and people will be hurt and misunderstand others.. it's what happens.

What right do you have to warn anyone on what they must or must not say? Here we go again hey? Deb said NOTHING wrong! She expressed herself in way she is entitled to.

EVERYONE has the right to post on this thread, EVERYONE.

Cat, I  think you may be onto something there. Whenever I have had surgery, I have come home feeling elated to be home, then a day or 2 later it doesn't feel so great. Tired, listless etc. I suppose, like all medications etc it has to take a toll on your body, we just don't expect it to affect our brains.

Hope you are feeling better since the surgery.

I and other members of my family have lost my middle son,his partner and my 2 year old Grandson.

No they didn't die thank God.Internet activity of others created hurt and suspicion which pointed fingers at them as the source of incorrect and hurtful gossip ended in us  all having no contact with them .

Please be careful everyone

As a carer  I am used to having my words and actions misreported to others including professionals who only speak with my son...I can grab his jacket to try to stop him jumping out of the car when he is acutely unwell....it will be thought by him and reported to others that I was trying to kill him. That hurts him (as incorrect info given to professionals does tend to) ,myself, our whole family and the wider community .We all need to be able to speak,be heard and not be put off caring ...because caring is needed.Lack of caring and consideration for everyone....hurts.

Cat my mum suffered from severe depression which got considerably worse after her hysterectomy. My memory's not what it used to be, but I think she may have been on hormone replacement therapy. My sister and I thought that was the problem and it had got to a stage where we were talking about seeing her doctor, she'd become quite angry a lot of the time too, and then we lost her in a car accident ๐Ÿ˜ž
