Hi Nics. Panadeine forte is keeping the pain at bay but I don't like how my brain is reacting to the whole situation. Fortunately, I have an appointment with my shrink tomorrow morning so she'll be able to help me get back on track again. Are you having a root canal done? They are painful things to have done. No, I don't often go to Croydon but I can. I like the idea of goingto George's. Perhaps once our dental problems have been sorted out?

Well we have commenced genetic testing. After talking about this in length some years ago we had agreed not to do it. Now daughter #1 wants to, plus for us it's free. So in 6 weeks we will know if in fact I carry that gene.

Twinks I have also put my hand up as a volunteer to assist with research. This morning I have given 4 viles of blood, this blood will be transported by plane to the Garvin Institute in Sydney by this afternoon.

I noticed an article in the Sun Tele yesterday in regard to Anorexia, have yet to read it.  I don't know anything about it other than it exists and I've seen a couple of females around here whom I assume are suffering. 

I don't mean to pry - just want to learn and if you're not comfortable about talking about it I understand; does a case manager discuss (with a family) the way a family can assist in her rehabilitation? 

Since experiencing a "caring" role for family members in various health situations over a few decades,  I now have far more compassion for the "carers" of a family member.  Usually, they are not trained.  But  they do the best they can.

We are sometimes able to provide the guidance, care and opportunity (wheels) to make a job a bit more easier.  But they still have to do the job.

Hi Deb

My daughters case is quite complex, starting with self harm, depression and anxiety but the eating disorder has taken prevalence over the last few years. Things started to unravel for her when she was 18 and had left home to go to uni.

It's very difficult to treat and as I said before, each state has only a handful of beds and limited treatment options.

You are so right, we are not trained and feel very much on our own at times, despite assurances to the contrary and detailed discharge plans. This time it was a bit better, they organised a family meeting so we could ask questions and put forth our concerns. 

It may be different for under 18's but my daughter is an adult so not much is discussed with us at all, however I think we are given a bit more 'consideration' because she is living back at home with us now. 

I don't know if everyone has a case manager or if she has one because she is on an Invountary Treatment Order. She is out of hospital but its a bit like being on parole, she MUST attend all appointments and meet the conditions. I look at it like a safety net.

She doesn't see it that way though!!

I don't mind the questions Deb and I know she is okay with me posting here. I just don't know where to start.

Just be a Mum ....be there .

Even if she doesn't want to be hugged, just a pat or stroke on the arm now and then, feels good from a Mum and Dad(?).

Yep, Dad's going through it too. It was our 24th wedding anniversary on Friday, the day we picked her up.

And neither of us realised until the next day
