Just heard this on TV. Owner said he thought it was a light hearted idea. I didn't catch it all but I think he said it wasn't handed out at the dinner.
crikey - It was that restaurant named in the link on a previous thread in this topic.

Well, if anything we have all learned that lots of people 'say' they don't read menus! LOL
When the only choice is humble pie, I can't see the need to.
But if this does all prove to be true, it won't be the only thing we have learned, will it?
Regardless of whether this is true or not, our Prime Minister's actions yesterday, and the way in which this was handled - i.e. reacting before any PROOF or FACTS were established one way or the other - has shown me that my PM does act in haste and will do things without proper planning and consideration.
It supports and justifies my views about the NDIS, NAPLAN, the school kids "bonus" the incredible rise in my power bill, Gonski report - just to name a few.

There is no way any of them would have apologized if they weren't guilty of being in the know!
I can't remember what the actual apology email/letter said - can you?
But my interpretation of it at the time was that he was sorry that this had happened to the PM even though he had nothing to do with it and was making it clear that he did not condone it - sort of like National Sorry Day.
The events that led to that really had nothing to do with me, but I am still really sorry that they happened.

Well, i just watched Mal on TV and he seemed really genuine and a bit peeved...
Do I think that the people at the restaurant might have already seen it on the night as a bad joke??
Yes.. that is a possibility.
Do I think that a candidate that is trying to win a seat would make up a menu like that???
no way...
I don't know the man, or the politics, but I will say that I did believe it was possible that he did make up the menu, however, what I did find hard to believe is that he would share it with others at the function - to me that seemed like just asking for trouble, as I am sure that every politician knows that people smile to your face whilst stabbing you in the back.
I just couldn't see how anyone with a brain would actually share it iykwim, but I can see how some people may make something up like that as a private joke.

An email to Mal Brough ?
It's reported that he wrote the email AFTER hearing the menu story on the evening news.
If your guess up there about Mal speaking with him earlier is correct ...he should have known
about it before then ?

You mean Mal Brough being sorry ..I thought you meant the restaurant owner
The restaurant owner owes more than just Mal Brough an apology imo

The "menu" has landed in my FB first thing in the morning yesterday; my first thought was NO, that cannot possibly be real. Few hours later it was on the news. In meanwhile there would have been frantic communications among LNP members, and then came the apologies. Yes, apologies and lame excuses but NO denials. Yes it was said that the 'menu" was a work of non party member, but it was only at night, some 12 hours later, that the claim was made that it had nothing to do with the people present at the diner, that none has seen it, it was not shown etc. Well, if that was the case why wasn't that made clear from the start?
My GUESS is that when the menu was released, seeing as no one at the dinner had seen it themselves, that they were contacting other people at the dinner to see if they knew anything about it.
Apologies? Well of course, even though my opinion of our PM is now greatly diminished, I am still very sorry that this has happened to her, that she was subjected to that kind of ridicule but even more sorry that she handled the entire situation so badly. She REacted without proof, thought or facts. I expect better from my PM, regardless of who they are. I really wish that she had have taken some time to think and to strategize, this is something she could have used in her favour regardless of the authenticity of that menu.
Handled with diplomacy, we could have all now been congratulating and praising her on how well she did handle controversial issues. All she has done is expose her weaknesses as a leader. If the menu were proven to be true, they would have spoken for themselves, or rather the people and the media would have, and she could have and she wouldn't have had to throw any point scoring mud at all.
Denials - LOL - how could they deny it until they had some FACTS as to the source? They knew that individually they had no knowledge, but needed to ensure that the same could be said for people with whom they were connected - otherwise they would be branded a liar.
They chose to only make clear what they knew to be FACT. Information for which they had PROOF. Something our PM really should have done, if not in her capacity as the PM, but certainly as a result of her legal studies.
Even I know that it doesn't matter what I know or believe, it only matters what I can PROVE - I just kind of expected that our PM would understand that too, ya know?
In this situation, it appears to me that it is the opposition who handled things like leaders. They collected FACTS before responding or acting, took a few moments to think, were quick to express their sympathy that something like this had happened, regardless of who was to blame and expressed their distaste for the content whilst initiating investigations into what really happened and planning how to move forward.

I sort of agree. I don't think it was his intention for it to be shared outside his office, that appears to have been out of his control. Whilst in bad taste (well some of it was quite funny and clever, I am sure that many such jokes are made by comedians around the world), I don't think he intended harm.
People make jokes about all sorts of things, politics and politicians are not exempt, some are distasteful. Jokes from Kiwis to Blondes to the Irish, they make up jokes about tragedies - NASA, Stuart Diver and John Denver come to mind. Many are quite crude.
I just can't see how he can be blamed for how people reacted when it appears that it was never his intention for it to be published.
IMO - our PM humiliated herself and did not handle the situation with the skill or decorum that I would expect of our leader.
