My Twins

This morning one of my cows had twin babies. The white one was born first then at 6.30 the little brown one was born. Unfortunately mum has ditched the brown one. She did let it suckle for a short time so it would have got some colostrum thankfully but it is now going to be bottle fed my me.

Exciting days down on your farm, HB. I grew up on farms- we had red polls -  and I remember how silly the cows used to get if one of them dropped a calf in the paddock, they'd run round  in circles and  cavort about kicking up their heels, as excited as if a spaceshp had just landed.

My daughter married into a family who breed Hereford Cows.Usually when the cow has twins she doesn`t have enough milk to provide for 2 calves so usually the one that misses out ends up been bottle fed...All the calves that they have "raised"  are named and usually kept..it`s amazing how their ears prickup when they are calledSmiley Happybtw Hereford`s are bred for meat and are quite a placid breed,my grandchildren love patting the cows..not bulls tho!!lol

My Beau continued it long enough to be banished to the 'cow' paddock. Nearly performed a free of charge mastectomy lol

Jumped up, hooves on shoulders and then slid down. He was a Murrey Grey so not a light weight.

Blessed are the cracked, for they are the ones who let in the light.

They are just beautiful...Boy do i wish i could get color like that in one of my foals ( the red& white splashes)..A friend of mine had a shire horse that had twin foals once ( extremely rare)..Been a few years since we had any calves now..We used to have murray grey's..I remember how protective each  momma was of the baby calf..One of our mares rejected a foal once and with lots of persistance got her to accept bubs again.Never a dull moment on a farm
