Reporting in, sadly we and the builder party company on unfriendly terms. In fact he walked off without finishing everything, luckily they were jobs Mr F and I can do ourselves. He wanted $2,000 over the original quote, we were happy to give him $1,000 extra but no more after all the stuff up's broken chipped tiles and the drama's attributed to his stuff up's. He even dropped part of the toilet roll holder into the wall Woman Frustrated  So he packed his bat and ball and left, so we have been madly cleaning up and finishing the jobs he left unfinished

oh gosh Freddie $2000 over the quote is a lot & it  would be due to the time spent fixing problems he caused.

I think you've you've done the right thing there

Oh no ... Smiley Sad    Freddie, I'm so very sorry he did that, how unprofessional is that.  He can consider himself more than lucky that you gave him even one cent more.  What a poor standard and he obviously couldn't give two hoots about his reputation.

So good that you can finish it yourselves now though, that gets the awful man out of your hair and you can finish to a really top standard that you like.

I really don't know how anyone can walk away from a job like that knowing they'd done it without much pride in the result.

The worst of it is over now though, he's out of your house and out of the way, it's smooth sailing and full steam ahead.

While I was cleaning the shower recess I found another 2 tiles on the wall with chips out of them, my guess is this was caused when he dropped a tool and chipped the 2 floor tiles, the tool has hit the wall on it's way down it wouldn't be noticeable unless you were looking for them, but still just so disappointing. To think he had the hide to ask for more money after the mess up he caused by not being more careful. It's certainly taking the shine off the excitement of our new bathroom and toilet.

Anyway he's gone, and we are getting things back in order.

Don't let him take the shine of it from you Freddie, you can now fix anything he messed up and do it a lot better, then you will be so delighted that you put the 'polish' on it all.  Keep smiling, you are really going to enjoy finishing it yourselves, you'll see ....  Heart

Sad when these things happen Freddie, however, I agree you did need to stand your ground as well. From what you have written there has definitely been a high level of incompetence which has led to unnecessary delays and added stress for yourself and Mr F.  You were given a quote for a completed job, so imo the extra you have paid to the builder is mare than fair.

Yes Tas, the builder has cause us a few headaches. When the house was lifted part of the bathroom floor (which was not part of the restumping)  was lifted as well. This should never have happened and was due to the builder's incompetence re not doing a cpl of necessary things BEFORE he lifted the house.  He and a cpl of his "tradies" then used sledge hammers to try to knock the floor back into place.  This action has resulted in a smashed concrete slab and many smashed slate tiles plus a huge amount of work now required to repair it all.  So don't mention contracts and licensed, registered builders to me  grrrrrr
