My dog is scared of cats.

Today on our afternoon walk, a cat took two steps toward her and she bolted. Unfortunately she slipped right out of her harness (I will have to look at another type pronto) and she ran straight across the road (thank goodness no cars!!) and kept on going.

Hubby had to chase her for a whole block and she only stopped when she ran into someones front yard and there was nowhere else to go. Then she refused to move and she had to be carried home.

Lucky all turned out well.

But gees, what good is a dog that is scared of cats lol??!

My dog is scared of cats.

Sounds like she may have had a bad experience with them. Many dogs have a healthy respect for them as a cats claws can do substantial damage.

I've seen a cat beat up a dog before today

How odd, I had a cat that was scared of dogs 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

My Jack Russell is scared stiff of cats.
When he arrived we were walking and he decided he needed to pee, unfortunately the bush he chose had a large silver cat sleeping there who rightly took great exception and gave Monty a great lesson in respect.
He has never forgotten.

How big is your dog? How old is it? And what past has the doggy have had before you got it?

All factors aside, the best way to teach your dog that cats are nothing to be afraid of, is to get a young Kitten and introduce it to your dog as a friend by playing with both of them and giving each the same attention.

Grown cats will always have the upper hand of any young or small dog.

My dog is scared of cats.

I once lived at a house where the back fence was falling down and new tenants in the house behind the fence moved in with 3 dogs - a German Shepherd and two mixed breeds (one middle sized, one small).  One day we could hear a lot of barking so we went outside to investigate.  The dogs had come through the fence....and the shepherd and the middle sized dog were bailed up in a corner by......one tortie cat.  The tortie could be feisty at times but I didn't think it would be enough to scare big dogs.  We had to shoo her into the house then stand guard while the dogs slunk back into their own yard.

When I was a child we had a cat and a dog and they didn't get on.  If they met in the house the dog would chase the cat up the hallway and into one of the bedrooms...at which point the cat would promptly tun around and scratch the dog on the nose.  The dog would yelp and run away like hell....with the cat chasing after him.  We wondered why he would keep chasing her because he always ended up with a bleeding nose.  He never got the better of her in all the years they lived together.

When I was a kid, the neighbors had two chihuahuas, with the imaginative names of Cisco and Pancho.  If you said "cat" they would start hunting around, reall macho types.  Then there was Lucy, my calico cat.............they cornered her in their back yard one time, she took Cisco's eye, and left Pancho with a really ragged ear.

From then on, mention "cat", and those two would be seeking shelter........

My Old Black Cat Jade jumped on the back of a German Shepard and went for his eyes, she was a terror with dogs,

Any dog that came into the yard she would bet up.

My Husband said he did not like cats but he loved this cat because it stopped the dogs pooing on the lawn.

Lilli has no fear of dogs but they chase her and she runs up the 6 foot fence.

My cat 'Bubba' weighed 23 pounds and would regularly beat up dogs up to the size of a Lab. He would have considered chihuahuas very noise cat toys.
