My dog is scared of cats.

Today on our afternoon walk, a cat took two steps toward her and she bolted. Unfortunately she slipped right out of her harness (I will have to look at another type pronto) and she ran straight across the road (thank goodness no cars!!) and kept on going.

Hubby had to chase her for a whole block and she only stopped when she ran into someones front yard and there was nowhere else to go. Then she refused to move and she had to be carried home.

Lucky all turned out well.

But gees, what good is a dog that is scared of cats lol??!

My dog is scared of cats.

All factors aside, the best way to teach your dog that cats are nothing to be afraid of,

No, let them be afraid, very afraid.    It's different if a kitty comes to live in the home, then they become good

friends, but I have known of too many cases where dogs have had their eyes scratched from unknown cats.

My Old Black Cat Jade jumped on the back of a German Shepard and went for his eyes, she was a terror with dogs,

Any dog that came into the yard she would bet up.

My Husband said he did not like cats but he loved this cat because it stopped the dogs pooing on the lawn.

Lilli has no fear of dogs but they chase her and she runs up the 6 foot fence.

There's one thing dogs can not get the better of with cats - the (handy props) height advantage.  My father built an adult height cubby house for my brother and I and a pair of birds made a nest in the roof cavity (they got in through the end of the ridge capping).  My cat soon discovered them and by jumping from the back fence on to the cubby roof she would get up there easily and lie in wait. She could sit there for hours but thankfully for the birds, never knew exactly when they were going to fly out so she never caught them.

Of course the cubby house was in the back yard.....the dog's domain.  He would glare at the cat and bark warnings at her.  She of course would look down on him from her lofty perch with contempt.  Eventually she would get tired of waiting for the birds (or it was dinner time) and she would jump from the roof to the top of the fence then saunter along it...annoying the dog no end.  Eventually she would drop down on the other side of the fence, walk around to the front door and demand to be let in.  Meanwhile the dog was still trying to work out where she went.
