Im so upset. I dont know what to do.
Have been working on this bathroom for a year.
I took this photo a month ago. Things in place but water not connected
Have had a few plumber problems but they have been fixed.
Today plumber was here connecting final pipes for the vanity. He did it and called me to see. We were standing in front of the vanity when there was a BOOOOM and the glass top exploded.
Plumber says "Oh dont know why that would have happened. Oh well, it was installed. Maybe you can claim it on insurance"
I dont know what to do. Im in shock and in tears.
Hubby bought this vanity 5 years ago. I know theres no way we can replace it.
And now im gonna have to pay a plumbers bill of fitting this vanity and then also to fit a new one

I dont know for sure if its the plumber and it doesnt matter even if it is, cause it cant be proved.
Weve had a few issues with the plumber that he has caused and ive told him there are issues, he denies its his handywork and then he finally admits it is and fixes the problem.
What i dont understand is, if glass vanities have issues...why the heck are there so many around to buy?
Anyway, we leave it all in the hands of the insurance guy now. Am hoping he will come early in the week so we can get this all sorted out and i will hopefully have it all finished by Chrissy.

how annoying and disappointing for you.
i liked the colour scheme.
perhaps you could make a mirror frame out of the bits. it would look great hung above your new vanity.

My daughter has a not blue version of a vanity unit like yours.
I like the glass. Some plumbers just don't like new things.
My other daughter bought a vanity with stainless steel legs and the plumber made a wooden frame instead of using the legs because he didn't know how to fit them and obviously was too stubborn (or illiterate) to read the instructions. Daughter was angry because he just would not listen to her. She was young and gave in to his bully boy attitude.
I think you'll have trouble finding a ceramic or plastic top that will suit the vanity. Most glass ones don't break. It might be worth trying another.

if it could be fitted a glass bowl type would be nice

Yes, when you think about it, there is choice.
The mirror frame idea sounds nice 😄

"It's not the plumber's fault, it's poor quality glass from China"
How would you know that SS4?
Given the described circumstances, a knowledge of tempered glass, the fact that the basin has been around for 5 years, and it had just been fitted by the plumber, I would think that the inevitable conclusion is that the sink was subjected to some mounting stress, most probably from the pipe/drain mounting flanges when the plumber fitted them.
PS
Glass is not a liquid, as the aged myth goes, it is an amorphous solid

My vanity exploded years ago.
Really couldn't care how people perceive me any more.

Hey Carl, I tried that joke back at #41, but nobody got it 😞

Im kind of freaked out by having glass anymore.
😞
Pepe- i like your idea about the mirror but i dont think in skilled enough to do something like that.
Here some more details, hubby reminded me that i'd forgotten, that point to the plumber causing this.
The plumber put the vanity in about a month ago. Put it in its spot and was going to connect the pipes but didnt have the right size fittings. But, he still siliconed it to the wall and also siliconed the glass top to the metal legs that it sits on.
At the time, hubby didnt think he should of siliconed it, but he was at work when it happened.
Then a month later when he comes to connect all the pipes, of course the silicone has set hard. So when he's tightening the pipes, there is no give in the silicone.
When we were looking at vanities on the weekend, and told some of the guys in the shops what had happened, they all said you dont silicone it till the day you are connecting the pipes. That way, when you tighten the fittings, the silicone will move with it

"Daughter was angry because he just would not listen to her. She was young and gave in to his bully boy attitude."
I have the same problem with tradesmen. When i try to tell them something, they look at me like im talking a different language.
Like when the plumber connected the new sewerage pipes outside to the existing sewer pipes.
He left and then i noticed there was water leaking around his join.
I rang him and he said there was no way it was his connection.
He came back, had a quick look and still denied.
That night, hubby dug under the connection a bit and we could see the drip coming from the join.
When we had a shower, the water just poured out of the join.
I called the plumber again and told him it was definatly his join and he came back and fixed it
