They have just turned up 10 days earlier than scheduled.
The 20 year olds look as though they've slept in their van, after partaking of a substance of some sort for the last few days. No ID or card to identify themselves or their company.
They had steel capped boots on with their board shorts and hoodies.
Their plan was to dig diagonally across the yard (including about 4 metres of concrete driveway).
I asked who was to pay for all this work on my property. "Just the government" was the response to my apparently stupid question.
They have now gone to speak to their "big supervisor" about my suggestion of pulling the cable through an existing conduit.
Okay, has anyone else experienced similar workmen and ideas that are charged to the Government?

They should be using existing ducts unless they've collapsed but it seems at the moment it's anything goes as long as it makes Labor look bad and makes the NBN look too costly so Mal and Tone can say they were right all along.

Ta Boris.
What I was concerned about was the appearance and apparel of the workers and the cost of the work backcharged to the government.
......The young fellow has just got back from speaking to his "big supervisor" and said that it is okay to use the existing conduit.
Now what I'm concerned with is whether the contractor will backcharge the govt for the larger job put to me originally or the less costly alternative.
Who will be "checking invoices against actual work"? Will this process be in a similar vane to solar/pink batt type rip-offs by contractors in the past?

At the moment it's all about making it look like a Labor botch job. Limits have been imposed to prevent the planned ramp up meeting it's target.
A few of the contractors might have been of the attitude that it's govt so we'll rip them off but most seemed to be genuinely committed.

I don't think I would allow them to do anything, their original "plan" would have made me very nervous. Do they know what they are doing? It doesn't sound like it. I would probably ask for the "big supervisors" number and call him/her myself. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it being "charged to the government", we will all end up paying for it (and much, much more).

well that is a relief for you 🙂
for anyone else, they have no ID, refuse to let them do anything to your property.
You need to know they are genuine,
if they insist, call your local MP.
they could be anybody. It has been tried already 😞
do not let anyone dig up your lawn, driveway etc.
you will be left with the cost when they disappear, unless you have a guarantee they will fix the damage, in writing.
