No people-smuggling venture had succeeded in landing asylum seekers on Australia for more than four months, the government says.

In the latest update on Operation Sovereign Borders, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said on Saturday that vigorous border protection activities was deterring illegal boat arrivals, even into the post-monsoon period when weather conditions usually improve.

Mr Morrison said the practice of turning back unauthorised boats remained in effect.

"Anyone seeking to enter Australia illegally by boat will be faced with the same policies those who previously attempted illegal entry met," he said in a statement.

Mr Morrison said no one had reached Australia since December 19 and that continued this month. But 3351 on 47 boats arrived in April 2013 under the former Labor government. (a Labor Failure their border policy) 

The latest Operation Sovereign Borders operational update says there are now 1281 in the processing centre on Manus Island and 1177 on Nauru, making a total of 2458.

Another 1405 remain on Christmas Island. During the last week, eight asylum seekers were transferred to Nauru.

Seven unauthorised maritime arrival transferees were voluntarily returned to Iran.

Since Operation Sovereign Borders started on September 18, 220 asylum seekers have voluntarily returned to their home countries.

A Rabbi and eight Christian leaders have just entered the electoral office of MP Jamie Briggs in a protest over asylum seekers.

The group of nine join 38 other faith leaders who have been arrested around Australia in the ongoing Love Makes A Way* movement in response to the government’s “No Way” campaign aimed at asylum seekers.

The groups entered the building in Mt Barker this morning and are holding a sit-in until they receive an answer to when all children being held in detention will be released .

To pass the time, they have been praying for all 983 children being held in immigration detention and praying for a humane change in policy.

The faith leaders are from a variety of traditions – Pentecostal, Jewish, Quaker and several Uniting Church congregations. The group hopes to secure a response from the MP (the Inverbrackie Alternative Place Of Detention is located in Jamie Briggs electorate) as to when the 983 children will be released from immigration detention.

They have been banging on about how much we contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, although the amount we emit is only 1.4 per cent of the world's total and abolishing the tax will have a negligible effect on solving the world’s warming disaster.

Our contribution to this exaggerated disaster is as big as a flea trying to bite an elephant's hide. It’s time for all to just cool down."

Reports are that a second boat with 50 people on board is on its way as well.
One wonders if ISIS overthrows the government of Iraq,how many will try to escape by boat etc.Again,it all goes back to the crime committed by Bush,Blair and Howard.I bet these wonderful Christian men aren't losing any sleep over the continuing horror over there.

These actions may be a different tack taken by illegal immigrants. To start their journey from a very distant departure point in the hope that they can't be towed back. This seems to be another shot in the locker of illegal people smuggling the criminals have pulled out of their bag of tricks.

It will not succeed as any illegal boats arrivals will not be settled in this country according to the policy of the present government.

The word has not got out or they are taking their chances on garnering enough sympathy to wedge the government in taking them.

They have been in contact by mobile phone with Fairfax and the Guardian Aus already to do this and it looks like it's working by the comments on here.
