NSW flooding

Of course it is germ ridden Michelle.

Don't you think there are germs in the dams where we get our drinking water?   How do you think they make it drinkable....it goes through a purifying process which is what would happen with any flood water that might be saved.   Much of it does go into dams anyway.

I agree with David...it would be nice to be able to save more than we do now.

every resorvoir has a huge catchment area, usualy covering vast land areas with farming going on day to day. on that land may have cattle or sheep or a few other breeds of animals roaming freely, all peeing and pooping on the very ground the rain falls on and then runs into streams down to the resorvoir.

also on those land areas collecting water that winds up in the resorvoir are dead animals, everything from mice to horses. same rain falls on them too on its way to the resorvoir.

also, there was a time, not so long ago, when just about every home had a rainwater tank and people relied on those tanks for the water they drank and cooked with and washed with. the tanks were filled with water falling on the homes roof. along with water the tanks had impurities such as bird droppings and even rat or possom poo.

back then there was usually little on no filtering of the water but amazingly our grandparents didnt all drop dead from germs.
