I thought there was something wrong when I saw all these old posts first up then I saw a new ID had spam replied to them all.

creating a similar id and there are many ebay members around the world with 'similar' ids is not illegal and is not hijacking someone elses account.
The member was using their own account which they are permitted to do...it's the way in which they do it that matters.
Using similar IDs is not 'illigal' but the following is not permitted:
Posting material with the intent to impersonate eBay Staff or another member through the use of similar IDs or any other method or device.
nor would be accusing a member of the crime of hijacking your account when they were in fact using their own ?

I was talking about what happened to darki...........she had no control on who was using the ID similar to hers...........and whoever it was, knows her.

Darki herself said...........who ever it was, knew alot about her..........and that the person that did it, just changed the date at the end of her ID, to make people think it was the original Darki.
That is not a good thing to have happen and fortuatley the false *darki* was removed.

Some members do have their own 'similar' id's I do believe ? So it's not always sinsister or 'someone else' using that similar id To stop others using any of an id it would need to be trademarked wouldn't it ?.People read these boards.
To me it just looked like someone who had been absent during the change over of the boards made a mistake and posted a private message on the boards...........however from what happen 'after' that was posted ....it appears not to be the case .
In any case whoever it was did not hijack anyone elses account and use it.They used their own.

and it has all been sorted out......how some private details became known......ie unintentionally through a private message sent to the wrong member......i don't think there is a need to be alarmed in this case.

This 'new' person makes ID's close to others user id names. They made one with DDB's original ID recently. They have also made ones similar to mine (before I shortened it). Perhaps it is good for others to be aware of that, and check carefully if they are in doubt who is posting as who.

as Darki herself posted earlier in this thread;
This 'new ID' trick is so easy to do because so far eBay has not taken to making sure the email addresses that go with the new ID are genuine.
In other sites you don't actually become a member until the email the site sends to the given address is replied to.
eBay should be doing that here. Sure you can keep getting multiple addresses, but it does mean the fake IDs can be traced.
