What yr V40 nicnacs? from 96 - 2003 they were a spruced up mitsu, based on the mitsu carrisma...(oh dear)
Clear choice for me - Mazda 6! excellent vehicles
The ol' 240 volvos built a reputation of safety for Volvo, but later model cars are just as safe then the later model Volvos if not better.
iI you have a Volvo in mind i'd recommend the S30 or the later S40/V50 theyre OK - & are based on the Ford Focus but are on the smallish side.

Volvo V40 has already been awarded the top five-star safety rating by ANCAP, and holds the record for the highest overall safety score ever recorded by overseas affiliate Euro NCAP.

Hi Nic, I'm looking at new cars atm too. We need a SUV .If we didn't I think we'd be buying the hyundai i30 (with 5yr unlimited km warranty) or a mazda 6 (In that order and as recommended by our mechanic) .
So many to choices aren't there

For my money i'd be looking at a Toyota GT 86, Its a 2 door thoroughbred though - pure driving machine, Be cheaper then the above models & theres a waiting period too (personal choice)
