Party invoice: Boy sent bill for birthday no-show
A five-year-old was billed for failing to attend a friend's birthday party - resulting in threats of legal action.
Alex Nash, from Cornwall, was invited to the party just before Christmas.
An invoice for £15.95 was sent by his schoolfriend's mother Julie Lawrence, who said Alex's non-attendance left her out of pocket and his parents had her details to tell her he was not going.
Alex's father Derek said he had been told he would be taken to the small claims court for refusing to pay.
Alex's parents, from Torpoint, had accepted an invitation to the party at a dry ski slope in Plymouth, Devon, just before Christmas.
However, they realised their son was double-booked and due to spend time with his grandparents, which he did.

It's all absolutely ridiculous to invoice the parents but then again it's darn rude to accept the invitation and then just be a no show.
I hope the birthday child had other friends there to help him celebrate. It scares me that there might have been other unreliable parents and that is what upset birthday boy's mum so much that she did such a silly thing.

I don't get it.....................
were the birthday boy's parents paying for the invited guests?
or were the invited guests paying for themselves?
* rude to accept an invitation and not go etc............ rude not to pay if that was the deal.
* rude of the birthday boy's mum to send a bill, if she was paying. Makes no difference to her, really, whether he came or not $ wise?
I suspect she was annoyed at the bad manners displayed by RSVP'ing and not coming or letting her know.

i guess there is a reason for
rsvp - so the bookings can be made
and paid for.
i wonder if they would threaten legal
action if the boy was sick and produced
a dr's certificate?

Did it include VAT.

What I dont understand is, why didnt these parents just speak with each other?
One set to explain, that, sorry, Alex wont be attending after all..or sorry my Alex didnt attend your kids birthday party, hope everyone had a great time..
and the other- well, actually, we had to pay for the party, and we paid for Alex, as you RSVP for him. Do you think you could contribute
what we had to pay for him?
Its not like these people are in business together, or the kids are not going to see one another- they go to the same school, and are friends...f f s
PS I dont like that the Invoice was put in Alex school bag- thats ridiculous and passive aggressive.
