NBN rollout: Streets and suburbs suffer digital divide as speed depends on lottery

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-23/australian-streets-digitally-divided-by-nbn-lottery/9073258

what kind of stupidity has fibre to the node on one side of a street while the homes on the opposite side have fibre to the curb or home?

just plain poor planning.

like my home, fibre cable running right past my house but they use copper wire for 1.5km to deliver my NBN!

where were quotes like this,

"And Mr Morrow is blunt — if those people want faster connections, they will have to pay for it themselves."

seems like well lets imagine, the power retailers saying 'well if customers want 240volts they will need to pay extra, we promise to deliver 24volts.'

or the water companys saying our pipes will only bring you water, we dont promise its enough to have a shower with, you want to have a shower you'll have to pay for bigger pipes.

NBN Co is a 'calamitous train wreck' that may never make a profit, Malcolm Turnbull says, laying blame with Labor

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-23/nbn-malcolm-turnbull-labor-to-blame-for-calamitous-train-wreck...

ive just watched the 4 Corners program from last night dedicated to the NBN.

i think every person in australia wether they use the NBN or not should watch it.

to now be getting the evedence that the liberals via tony abbott, malcom turnbul and the various other nincomputs who have had their hands on this project have sold us a very very expensive lemon would be laughable if not so serious.

to be put to shame by New Zealand just makes it worse.

to now, after running this project for 7 or 8 years to say, oh it was labors fault....give me a break....nothing labor planned was left after mr internet malcom put his mixed technology plan into action.

come 2020, we will be putting up with a failure of a broad band network whilst we are forced to pay again to fix it.

"I suspect in ten years time we will probably look back on the fibre to premises NBN connection and view it as another GIANT, money wasting, Labor white elephant. This is just another thought bubble from the same mob that brought us pink batts and overpriced school halls."

While the Labor model was a bit futuristic for the dullards in the LNP, the LNP  once in government change its format to one that it hoped could fit in its the plan for the future, that being the next election. The plan as stated by Mr Internet was like like replacing the wheels on a Rolls-Royce with bald retreaded bicycle wheels.

And as usual sums up all its short comings and disasters with "its all Labors fault"

NBN: Do you really need higher speeds or can you do without?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-25/do-you-need-the-nbn/9079268

sure, a lot of us need the NBN about the same as we need home insurance, its there to use if we need it but for the most part its useless.

but this isnt about those of us who will use internet to pay a bill or read news stories.

its about the future of life in a fast moving world. where businesses not even thought of 10 years ago are being established because of the internet.

we ask, what will we do for a job once all the traditional jobs are gone offshore or being done by robots?

well there are oportunities to move into home based technology driven jobs.

but the one thing needed to move into a future of these internet linked jobs is fast internet at your home.

the other area that requires us to have fast home internet is the entertainment area. i see a day where our tv, radio ect will be comming via the internet. the phone is allready being moved (not very sucessfully i might add but thats not the fault of the internet)

i believe thanks to tony abbott and malcom turnbull australia is being left behind by the rest of the world.

in 2020 when the NBN is finished (haha) we will have a internet speed that is no better than ADSL and that will prove to be very slow in the world of the internet.

5G vs NBN: Next-gen mobile network will be a convenient but expensive alternative

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-25/5g-vs-nbn-mobile-network-convenient-but-expensive-alternative/...

its a nice dream, to have a wireless system, but, when you cut that cable you increase costs by a huge amount.

i had 4G via telstra (3G before that) from 2007 until earlier this year.

it was the only option where i live.

it was allways expensive compared with ADSL via telephone cable.

for my $105 per month fee i got reasonable speed of about 20gbpm download some times.

and at first an alowance of 5gb per month data download, going up to 7.5gb then finally 15gb.

15gb seemed a lot at first, but by the time the NBN was rolling out in my area i was struggling to not use my 15gb up by the middle of the month. after which my speed was cut to near dial-up speed. try doing anything with that.

in my view, wrireless or satelite can never compete with a cable conecting you computer to the internet.

its expensive and your restricted to a paltry amount of download data.

i'm now on the NBN with all its faults, but i do save $40 a month, (combined telephone line rental and cheaper plan),

get a whopping 1,000 gb of data download but my speed is only a few gb faster than the 4G at 23gbph.

i think in the near future anything under 50gbph will be classes as slow, 100gbph will be treated as normal, 500gbh will be a good service. will we get that? thats the billion doller question after the mess we have made with this current NBN.

Optus admits customers may have been overcharged for NBN speeds

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-09/optus-latest-telco-to-compensate-customers-for-slow-nbn/913277...

tip of the iceberg stuff, its been known at least publicly from as far as i know 2015 that there was no way anyone on fibre to the node could get more than 25gbph, but that didnt stop anyone from the NBN or the telcos fluffing with the data so people would sign up for 'high speed NBN' thinking they were getting up to 100gbph.

it was criminal.
