Old Chinwag Craft Board Block Swap 2007

Sometime in early 2007, the Craft Board quilters got together and organised a Block Swap. We had to design and prepare enough blocks to make a quilt for ourselves, provide the first block completed and send the package on to the other crafty people in the swap.
We each completed a block in everyone's set.
My quilt was for my grandsons' bedroom in my home. I set a theme of teddy bears and boy's toys.
Most of these quilts have been finished for some time....... but.... I could not make a decision on how to do mine until recently.
I learned so much in that year and can't thank everyone who was involved enough! My applique skills are much improved.
So, thank you ♥

I have also sewn the labels of the blockmakers onto the back of the quilt, behind the relevant blocks.
I made mine into a quillow, a quilt that folds into a pillow, so one of the blocks is on the back of the quilt and when folded into it, becomes a pillow.
My 3 yo grandaughter looked at it and said "Gran, that is brilliant" and that is a good recommendation, so I have to thank everyone who was involved.

Lovely quilts girls. I think the Russian Dolls is my fav! Very cute!

I have a couple of quilts happening at the moment, both needing to be done as early as yesterday! ha ha

Bundy a friend has just made a quilt using a roman stripe pattern, beautiful quilt, beautiful colours, 2 weeks old and falling apart at the seams already with hardly any use! She is devastated as she put a lot of work into it and the fabrics were expensive. She is not sure what she will do to repair it but may have to over-sew every seam and there are a lot of them!

Not wanting to put you off making yours, just letting you know.

Friend was told by shop owner NOT to wash fabric before sewing BUT if you do a search on-line you will find: Flannel fabric tends to shrink and fray badly so make sure you wash/soak fabrics well in hot water before cutting them. Also, sew with a wider seam allowance than normal, at least 3/8" to 1/2".

I wonder too, if it is worth shortening the length of the stitch a little as well, maybe to length 2? I would also be inclined to heavily quilt, especially over the seams to help prevent them from coming apart. Just wondering out loud now too if sewing the seams with a twin needle would help stop the fraying?

Can I suggest you do your own on-line search to see what advice you come up with so you won't be disappointed like my friend? Hoping this helps and doesn't put you off at all.
