One Nation co-founder suing Tony Abbott for $1.5m

A LAWSUIT by One Nation Party co-founder David Ettridge against federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will head to court next month.

Mr Ettridge is suing federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott for damages of more than $1.5 million.

He has accused Mr Abbott of acting unlawfully in 1998 by assisting and encouraging litigation against One Nation in the Queensland courts.

Mr Ettridge alleges the court action was false and malicious and the resulting damage affected him greatly.

He also accuses Mr Abbott of attempting to pervert the course of justice by providing lawyers "to propel those false claims through the courts".

Mr Ettridge's lawyers served legal papers on Mr Abbott for damages on the weekend.

A spokesman for Mr Abbott told AAP the papers had been received, but declined to comment further.

A directions hearing is set for the Brisbane Supreme Court on May 9 and Mr Abbott has received a summons to attend.

"Before Tony Abbott can become prime minister of Australia he needs to be judged on his suitability to hold the highest office in Australia," Mr Ettridge told AAP in a statement.

"For his role in this disgraceful period of Australian political history, Tony Abbott has never been brought to account."

Now we know why he is ticked off - He didn't like the food they served in gaol and it has given him indigestion for the past 15 years.

"Vengeance is sweet" but he is being a bit ridiculous and will look even more stupid when it's over, hope they make him foot the costs.

LL how would you suggest that the LNP would be legally able to initiate proceedings in a civil matter that they were not party to?
"joking right ? how do you think they have managed on other occasions. via a third party of course. i thought you a little less naiive."

I will try again. So LL, what 3rd party do you envisage would have legal standing, and could/would initiate whatever tort you have in mind?.

NAE: "...... bribery of a witness, pervert the course of justice, among other grievances.....".

I have found 9 "grievances" (allegations) from Ettridge,  but not your alleged "bribery of a witness" this allegation of yours requires a link, as the action would move from some dredged political election year ramblings  to the purview of :  CRIMINAL CODE - SECT 127 Corruption of witnesses, and thus a criminal offence.
Link please NAE

It is Ettridge's filing in Brisbane Supreme Court.

This might also interest you:-

The Crime & Misconduct Commission of Queensland conducted an inquiry into "The Prosecution of Pauline Hansen & David Ettridge"

The report was presented in January 2004. Its conclusions state -

'Conclusions
The Commission is of the opinion that no misconduct or other impropriety has been shown to have been associated with the conduct of the litigation concerning Ms Hanson and Mr Ettridge, or with the police investigations leading to the prosecution.
The Commission also found no evidence of political pressure or other improper influence or impropriety........the involvement of Tony Abbott in events leading up to the institution of proceedings to deregister the party did not produce or constitute a failure of due process.

NAE, It would appear that statute of limitations might well come into play (6-10) years, but I am sure you will research that point!!
