Dont you think that is more about choices, ibis? If everyone was happy to go back to very basic living (no appliances, no phone, internet car etc) you could still have 3,4 or more kids (in one or two bedrooms). Depending on your 'class' your kids could leave school at 15 unless they were considered bright and could be eligible for a scholarship.

Don't get me wrong, I wish society as a whole could move at a slower pace too, but most of our stresses today are within our control.

don't even take me back to the 1970's thanks very much. The days some of us had a mother as the main wage earner on a wage way lower than a man would earn in the same position and were child care was mainly only there those who had family able to child mind for them.

and then there was the 80's ...great years for people with a mortgage

If men think it OK and perhaps even a compliment ,as it comes from them, to refer to any woman as 'baby'  

they (the Man) need to move with the times and get over themselves.This isn't a Happy Days episode
