I am becoming fascinated with Perth!
Tell me everything! What are the nice areas? What's not so nice?
Is East Victoria Park a nice area? What about Mt Lawley?
How cold does it get in winter? Many people? Is it busier now?
Why have you got sandy soil over there? Is it everywhere? LOL
Pictures please 😄

What does the OP care about comparing Perth to Sydney?
Sydney needs a second airport..it doesn't cope that well.

What about the airport? Really people get so het up about it. It's not that bad, I really find it no problem, I have been to far worse. But........They are working on it and have been for some time. Our airport is the fastest growing in Australia, growing faster than any analysts ever predicted.

Thanks I'm just fascinated with the place atm
It is a wonderful place to live Clair even though you are not intending to do so. No matter where one lives, there is usually something about weather conditions that can be criticised but the quality of life here, the relaxed and generally friendly attitude of folk more than makes up for any shortcomings in that regard.
There is the usual competitiveness found in many cities - here it is North of the River (NOR) and South of the River (SOR). and being SOR (Fremantle) I think SOR is by far the best place to live ]:)
Do not be put off by comments about traffic jams - if you have experienced them in the eastern states cities ours do not hold a candle to those. We have terribly selfish drivers here though many of whom have yet to learn the meaning of the word 'merge' let alone how to use a roundabout properly :^O
Free bus services both in Perth city and Fremantle make getting around cheap and easy for both visitors and residents alike.
Kings Park and the views over Perth Water, sunsets over the Indian Ocean from Leighton Beach or any of the others which fringe the suburban areas in the west, no poker machines except at the Casino and much, much more 🙂
I am also told that the time difference coupled with the physical distance from the eastern states can also afford great opportunities to get away from overbearing or interfering relatives and develop some independence 😉
I do not have that problem although I have heard it expressed on more than one occasion 😄

I cant stand Kalgoorlie. I agree Joz, Kal gets very cold, but it had nothing on NYE 2011 in Collie. I have never been so cold in my life. Busselton at Easter was pretty cold at night too.
it is a lot greener down south too, used to stay at a mate of a mates house in Collie, to do a bit shooting, back when it was legal. Drove a 4X4 on a freshly made track and entered (thick bush everywhere) led to a clearing where there were heaps of people in the middle of nowhere, freaked us out, slammed it into reverse and got out quick smart, woe.
stopped at Coolgardie a few times Clair & i dont recall much of it, think i even slept over night there

What's Collie?
Yes London Court! That's it I remember that place I bought a snow globe there that lit up at the bottom, long gone now 😞
Not that it matters to me but because it was brunged up (unsure whether it's bought up or brought up) - how does the airport compare to the Adelaide airport? Do you have to walk from the tarmac to the building? Do you still have to do that in Adelaide?
I think I got my answer about Adelaide, I just googled:
"Passengers boarding from the tarmac in 1967; this continued for domestic passengers until 2006."
So funny when you think! But that was normal we never thought anything of it.
