PM-elect chooses budget flat over The Lodge

In the meantime, while the ALP continue their infighting:

Prime minister-elect Tony Abbott to will live with junior Australian Federal Police recruits in a $120-a-night Canberra flat rather than move into The Lodge.

The move is necessary due to Canberra’s 1927-built prime ministerial residence currently being re-wired and eradicated of asbestos and a possum infestation, the Sunday Telegraph reports

.

The incoming PM reportedly rejected an offer of a $3,000-a-week upmarket rental and opted to flat with the AFP recruits.

An emphasis on 24-hour security is believed to be behind the budget accommodation decision.

But Mr Abbott will be entertaining dignitaries at his parliamentary offices rather than taking them to his kitchenette-equipped pad.

The multi-million dollar renovations to The Lodge, which were signed off by former PM Julia Gillard two years ago, could last for up to a year.

In Sydney, the Abbott family are expected to soon move into the PM’s Sydney residence, Kirribilli House.

A humble human being who is going to make a great PM.  Every day he makes the right decision, what a change from the dysfunction & chaos we have been subjected to under Labor.

They are the ones who tell where they sleep. It is the taxpayer who pays for their accommodation . So I guess we do have an interest.

The tax payer pays for all jobs in the public service, does this mean that it is acceptable to be interested in where they all live as well?

He did NOT choose the flat (by the way $120 a night = $840 per week) rather than The Lodge, that was not an option.  The Lodge is being renovated and he cannot live in it.  Margie and the girls are not coming to Canberra with him, and the flat is convenient.  When he will actually start working as a PM he will not have much time to be "at home" wherever that might be.

He did NOT choose the other option either:

why doesn't he bunk where he did before ? i doubt it was squalid. this story is simply to deflect from the real problem he faces.. implementing his 'policies'  . the foot dragging is deliberate as failure in the house is all he'll face for a year.

I do not care what happens in their rooms. I think all taxpayer funding should be a matter of public record.

Funny how some on here squeal when it is labor doing the spending. Double standards perhaps?

Yes, that is all very well but the article (and you) sets it up as showing that TA is so much better than Labor, when in fact Gillard (and others) stayed the same place, and no doubt for the same reasons:  It is very close to the parliament house and has already good security = it is convenient, and simple.  So, it is the right thing to do, but it does not desrve special mention, or article in the press.

I just wonder WHY on the earth does anybody have the need to show TA as being so wonderful?  He should be judged on what he does as a PM about policies and issues, not where he sleeps when in Canberra.  PM usually works long hours, or at least should; the Labor PMs did.  TA has been voted in week ago, he still has not even found the time to get sworn in, and all what LNP managed to achieve was to offend the Indonesians further.  He has not stopped one single boat, and so far his strategy seems to be to lie low.

SN: " but it does not desrve special mention, or article in the press."

In your  (biased) opinion, so why do you think it has been mentioned , and also by yourself SN?

SN: "PM usually works long hours, or at least should"

Why exactly?

SN: " TA has been voted in week ago, he still has not even found the time to get sworn in"

"If Abbott and his cabinet are sworn in this Tuesday as expected, it will be 10 days after the election victory. This compares with nine days after Kevin Rudd's election victory in 2007."

SN it was inevitable the change in government, accept it,  and save your Myopia  musings until the Libs actually are governing.
